The Secretary General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, H.E. @MeneWamkele, participated today in Sharm El Sheikh, #Egypt, in the @afreximbank strategy review retreat. On this occasion, he gave a technical presentation on progress in implementing the AfCFTA, with an emphasis on unlocking the continent's potential in a changing world. The Secretary General described some of the achievements, challenges, and prospects, as well as the future of the partnership with Afreximbank. His Excellency emphasised the role of Afreximbank as a key pillar supporting the implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement and the ongoing efforts of the Secretariat. Some of the major achievements of the AfCFTA Secretariat have been realised in collaboration with Afreximbank. He mentioned, among others, the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (#PAPSS), a payment and settlement platform for cross-border transactions, currently operational in 14 African countries. Another joint initiative is the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund, aimed at supporting the effective participation of countries in the AfCFTA by financing projects related to intra-African trade. Reference was also made to the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), which aims to bridge the gap in trade and market information by creating a sustainable platform to connect buyers and sellers, both on the continent and internationally. "The partnership between the AfCFTA Secretariat and Afreximbank has significantly advanced Africa’s trade and economic integration. I am confident that our ongoing collaborations will continue to support us in achieving our strategic priorities," he concluded. The strategy review retreat analyses and discusses the external factors affecting Africa's trade and economic development and their implications for Afreximbank's current strategy and operations, as well as the bank's performance.
