@Timboreed @IRONMANtri Couldn’t agree more about the crying shame it’s leaving Nice! I was on the ground and it was amazing. Forget tech and simply look at raw power outputs. Nick Thompson pushing 350+ watts for circa an hour on a climb! He’s the same size as you Reidy 😀

Couple take aways from the @IRONMANtri - The depth and speed up front even when you account for the tech advances is still mind blowing. Let's say the bike and shoe tech from 15 years ago is making athletes 5% faster. That's still 8h20 ish.. which use to be winning times on relatively flat courses. - I think it's a massive shame that the WC's can't keep rotating with Nice. The main argument I would hear is 'yeah but it doesn't have the history'. Nothing has history before you give it time to build history! It would be hard to find a more fair course to identify the best of the best. - The coverage was great. @CrowieAlexander and @Frasertri were terrific and need more air time. There could always be more focus on the battles behind the lead to keep it interesting. - The Norwegians.. ok @bbculp I'm going to have to buy your damn book. - We did a pod to chat more about the day. instagram.com/triathlon_ther…

@arjona_manu for to induce earlier recruitment of these fibres to improve their endurance capabilities? Does a combination of intensity above CP, low cadence and then duration see the Henneman size principle occur earlier with traditional Vo2 interval if achieved through high torque/low rpm?

@arjona_manu Thank you for your thoughts on Torque training. It’s very interesting and I would enjoy hearing more on this topic. In terms of mitochondrial content and adaption in the recruitment of type 11a fibres what do we know about torque and whether there is a Nm threshold we could aim

Today´s blog. In submaximal efforts, torque is not as relevant as power. What determines the fatigue produced by this work, and therefore what should guide how we measure training, is power. Torque alone tells us nothing.

Carb cycling........I'd call it carb periodisation! Great to be featured in @MensHealthMag menshealth.com/uk/nutrition/a… Don't think about high carb day, low carb day - but how to fuel meal-by-meal based on the demands of your training. @hexis_live does this for you 💪

Less than 30s to track my breakfast! I'm doing a 70.3 in 5 weeks and (even though I helped build it) @hexis_live is doing my daily nutrition plan. I track 1 or 2 meals a day at the moment just to check I'm in the ball park, new food scanner is 👌

@Bevanfitter @nbobbaalves Hi and Thanks Bevan. I‘m a frequent listener of your podcast but haven’t listened to that episode yet. Sure, I‘d be happy to talk to you and can share my experiences, although I‘m not an expert🙂

The excellent paper of @nbobbaalves et al. ("The energetic cost of allostasis and allostatic load") inspired me to write about allostasis & allostatic load. open.substack.com/pub/sherzog/p/… A thought-provoking paper (see image below), that I recommend everyone to read and discuss!

The pursuit of peak performance often comes at a cost. A cost that isn't always visible. Read my latest blog: open.substack.com/pub/sherzog/p/… I believe this topic warrants a thorough scientific exploration and appreciate any feedback or inputs helping to spark a discussion around it.

With everything we know about aerodynamics I’m still confused with some sprinters choices. #Paris2024

@Bevanfitter @SebastianKienle @sam_appo Yeah good point, 10% is too much once adapted. 2-6% would be typical. Yeah no one around so no need to play the 10 metre game which often gives lower NP but at a cost of lots of surges.

In addition to @SebastianKienle ‘s quote regarding solo out front racing “there are other advantages to riding out in front, like being a f#%ing legend”, you can also ride a delicious variability index like @sam_appo at #IMOZ

@Timboreed @SebastianKienle @sam_appo Undoubtedly! Especially with the lower volume build for this race as opposed to IMWA. Didn’t think Boulder FTP for a resident of the town would be 10% lower than sea level tho. Great bike leg execution and maybe why others faded more in the 2nd half of marathon?

Another Ironman pro victory for RPG with @sam_appo going sub 8 on a course many said it would never be done. At #IMWA we hugged in tears because an age group athlete took Appo out in a bad crash. Yesterday, we hugged with tears of joy that he finally received what he deserved for a decade plus of commitment. We did 28-30 hour weeks for Busso and it was working superbly but for this prep, for whatever reason, he couldn’t absorb that load. We had to adapt. 21 hours was Appo’s biggest week and booyah he still flew. (Of course, those 28 hour weeks and his 18 years of ‘triathloning’ also played a role 😉) 📷 @koruptvision

Thanks to @Bevanfitter for having me on the show again. Here we discuss CP/CS and W’/D’ in detail, including how to leverage these concepts in your training. The link is to Spotify but you can find it on Apple and other platforms as well. open.spotify.com/episode/4CZOk7…
