@CristiTilden @PhilipATSimpson To be fair, counting from LMP while having irregular cycles from previous childbirth could greatly skew these numbers. I had a baby due on the 13th, but ultrasound technology updated it to the 30th. Without that technology, my 39 week baby would be a 42 week baby. 🤷‍♀️

Interesting seeing so many people talking about inducing at 39 and 40 weeks. My mom had one of my brothers at 45 weeks. We know another lady that has ten children (mostly grown now) and none of them were before 42 weeks. Sometimes babies just need to cook a little longer.

@agreatdayinnc I wouldn’t have a problem if he was pushing an abundance of kids as a good thing that people should strive for. It’s the part where he says it borderline sin to stop at two that makes it particularly bothersome. Don’t spout your preference as theology.

That post making its rounds about having more than 2 kids is a PERFECT example of how everyone sees something thru the lens of their own life experiences Fascinating to see unfold

@MrsCMFrancis The state of the world is depressing. I have a friend though that when his roommate moved out, the guy took the current half-used roll of toilet paper and that seemed like a true low.

Very well said.

As someone who has had three children in five years of marriage, writing "I think it’s bordering on sin for a couple to limit themselves to having two children" is extraordinarily foolish and unbiblical. Yes, children are amazing. Yes, be fruitful and multiply. But no, don't place yokes on people that aren't found in the Bible. That's what the Pharisees did, and Jesus despised them for it. Old Testament Law required that Jews work six days, and rest on the Sabbath. Pharisees thought, "Well, plucking grain is working, therefore you can't pluck grain on the Sabbath" (read Matt. 12:1-14). It sounds reasonable. There's a general command, don't work on the Sabbath, and the Pharisees were simply laying out specific ways that you must avoid work on the Sabbath. Not working on the Sabbath is good. Why did Jesus despise the Pharisees so much for striving to have more people follow God's good commands? Because they're adding their own words and requirements to God's words, and making it equal in authority. Breaking the Pharisees' traditions and laws was equivalent to breaking the Scriptures, even though the Bible never said you couldn't pluck grain on the Sabbath. All it said is that you couldn't work. In the same way, having children is good. They're blessings. Scripture is clear on that (Psalm 127:3). But in encouraging married couples to follow the general command of being fruitful and multiplying, we must be careful of committing the error of placing specific requirements on them that aren't found in the Bible (I don't believe Mike is doing this, but he's close), even if those requirements involve blessings, such as placing a burden upon parents to have more than two children. If the Scriptures don't require you to have a set number of children (and they don't), then it's not "borderline sinful" for you and your spouse to agree upon how many children you would like to have, or to have fewer children than you're able to have. Matters such as this fall under Christian liberty (Romans 14), and are a matter of wisdom and conscience for each couple to think through, seek counsel on, and bring before the Lord in prayer. You can encourage a married couple to have more than two children if you know them and their situation and believe it'd result in the best blessings for their lives specifically, but your input is not law, it's merely wise counsel and isn't required to be followed. Only God's Word has such authority. "Therefore, let us no longer judge one another. Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in the way of your brother or sister." (Romans 14:13)

@saintathanasia I was prepared for it in that I knew he’d be proposing and had already bought a wedding dress, but the actual moment of the proposal was unexpected.

@_loonielovegood If you want four and your husband wants three, the proper math is actually seven. ;)

I want four kids. Hubs wants three. We just ran into our pastor while we were out walking. After he coo’d over baby boy, he turned to hubs ‘n said “now you just need four more 😀”

@ouranometrian2 It’s such a weird argument regardless. Like, if the kid is putting clothes on in public spaces, why should it matter what he wears in his room?

Is this a safe place to say I also don’t prefer Eric Carle’s style of art? Unlike some people, I won’t hate on you if you like his books, but personally I think they’re ugly. 🤷‍♀️

@bethanyjbabcock This is why I prefer the basic Cosco car seat. Easiest cover to remove. Still a pain in the butt, but my 4 year old has one of those fancy 5 setting things that is a bear to deal with. I hate it.

I started researching car seats while waiting for my flight today. There have been major advancements since my kids were babies but unfortunately none of them include the ability to hose them off and dry quickly after a major blow out/ vomit. Disappointing. We need more mothers in engineering.

@abysstoabyss Yes! Writing a novel while caring for three under three is not realistic. Maybe someday I’ll get back to it. In the meantime, I need to find less time-intensive ways to nurture my love of words.

Re: The Bow Post Idk I feel like I haven't lost my hobbies, I just don't get to do them as much. We don't have to be martyrs, we just have to manage our expectations.

@faithmaycreate My baby has consistently eluded the Doppler and my midwife suggested that perhaps I had an anterior placenta this time. I was like, “I’ve been feeling movement since week 13, so that’s doubtful.” Kid is just super shy. 😂

@yayfor1a It was pretty obvious by 12 months. She would shriek and thrash, but applying pressure to her forehead always helped and she would settle and fall asleep. It’s heartbreaking to watch a child that small suffer through that.

@Nyct0phil3_x I genuinely believe this depends on the hobby and/or age of the children. Some hobbies are probably easier to incorporate, but others may have to be sacrificed for a season due to frequent interruptions and that’s okay.

I'm going to be harsh - shocking I know - but this is a choice. You do not have to give up your hobbies, interests, passions or identity when having kids. This modern notion of needing to neurotically helicopter over your kids and sequester them away in "kid centric" activities is bizarre and stupid and boring. You can just take your kids to your events and activities. You can just do uour hobbies. You can tell your kids you're busy and to go and play independently. You'll be happier for it and your kids will be more resilient and capable.
𝓛𝓮𝔁𝓲𝓮 💗@softpinkgiggles

We need to talk about the grief of losing your entire identity to motherhood while the man you married gets to keep his hobbies, his freedom, and his career completely uninterrupted.

@bridgerridge21 Yeah. She’s a very particular child and absolutely would not deal with that at this age (4), but if this continues when she’s older, I hope I can convince her it’s worth a try.

@yayfor1a I’d still do a vaginal birth over a c-section, but getting baby turned into the ideal birthing position is still ideal and I think it’s weird to pretend it’s not.
