I've got to say that I'm really disappointed in the recent discourse surrounding the RCP8.5 scenario. The lack of context and understanding is something I expected from the usual suspects, but it's frustrating to see such bad takes from people and outlets who should know better.

Relevant data. Over 700 cases analyzed, myocarditis incidence surged during the start of the pandemic and remained high. Vaccine-associated myocarditis not likely a contributor. Can we really say we are living a post-pandemic era? #COVID #LongCovid

A retrospective cohort study suggests that myocarditis rates surged during COVID and stayed high. Rates rose roughly 80% above baseline during the pandemic and disproportionately affected Black patients. Read more: ow.ly/PGmR50Z2KO1

Insane stat of the day: California almonds use roughly 3–5.5 million acre-feet of water per year, depending on methodology. That's ~4-7x more water than all data centers in North America used combined in 2025.

Now oil and gas drilling greatly increase the threat to the Amazon rainforest, one of the world’s fastest growing fossil fuel frontiers. 20% of all new reserves found there or nearby in recent years,. And when burned they will also hasten its demise. theguardian.com/environment/20…

SARS-CoV-2 Omicron began circulating in late 2021, and its subvariants remain the dominant strains in 2026. Over the years, we’ve often heard that newer variants were becoming less severe, but a new systematic review published yesterday suggests that may not be true. Stay up to date with your vaccines and boosters, people. #Covid #LongCovid link.springer.com/article/10.100…

‼️What to know about the "extraordinary" Ebola outbreak in central Africa: 🌟Overnight it has been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the WHO 🌟It is caused by the Bunidbugyo strain of Ebola for which there are no vaccines or other proven counter measures 🌟There are 80 suspected deaths and more than 300 suspected cases over a very wide area 🌟There are confirmed cases in Kampala (capital of Uganda, pop. 5m) and Kinshasa (capital of DRC, pop. 10m) 🌟It appears the outbreak has somehow been running for up to three weeks unchecked 🌟The true scale of the outbreak remains unclear and could be "much larger" than currently detected/reported, says the WHO 🌟Scientists will be rushing to understand how a disease as nasty as ebola could have spread so far unchecked 🌟The DRC has long experience of it with 16 previous outbreaks, which makes this all the more odd 🌟Is the early presentation of the disease different? Were tests giving false security because of the different strain and false negatives? 🌟Normally there is no asymptomatic spread of Ebola except in very rare recovered cases through sex.

Roughly one in 10 Americans gets their water from the Colorado River. But the river is drying up due to a persistent drought driven in part by climate change. The crisis has been building for decades, but will likely come to a head this summer, as the past winter was brutally warm. The heavy snow that was supposed to fall on the Mountain West and slowly melt, sending water down into rivers and reservoirs, never happened. "Simply put, the basin is not producing the water supply that all of our states anticipated decades ago," California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot told Horizons host @WmBrangham. "So we all anticipated and planned for and built infrastructure to use more water than is currently available." The Colorado River has slipped to record low levels, threatening the water supply for 40 million people across seven western states — Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, California and Nevada. But the crisis is not just about water; it's also about electricity. Lake Powell and Lake Mead, two reservoirs on the river, are also nearing record lows. The man-made lakes generate hydroelectric power for millions. In February, the seven Colorado River basin states failed to reach a new agreement on how to share the river's dwindling resources. The federal government is threatening to impose its own plan. Joel Ferry, the commissioner of Utah's Department of Natural Resources, called it a "solvable problem," and said the seven state governors are working with the federal government to find solutions. "Ultimately, this is something that both our political leaders and the water users have got to come together to find a creative solution," he said. Horizons from PBS News, dives into the science, health, technology and environmental issues making headlines each week. Visit the PBS News website to watch this week's episode.

Xavier Becerra just took half a million dollars from the fossil fuel industry. This on top of the maximum contribution from Chevron. Meanwhile, climate change is real. “Normal politics” is burning the world down.
