Islam is more of a political movement which is branded as a religion.
1. Who was the political leader of Muslims when Prophet Muhammad was alive? There is no other political leader. Prophet Muhammad was the political leader. While Muhammad started off as a relatively weak man at the beginning, he became a very strong political leader at the end.
2. And during his career, Muhammad conducted military campaigns through out Arabia. He made war with other tribes which rejected his authority/ his religion. He was a warlord.
3. Does Islam have a political aim? Do they want to propagate Islam and turn the whole world into Islam? Do they talk about establishing a caliphate? According to Islamic sources, yes, they do. They have a political aim
4. And Islam punishes those who leave the faith with death penalty. The punishment for apostasy is death. And freedom for other religions is restricted or totally banned in Muslim majority countries. This shows the totalitarian tendencies in Islam.
Therefore we can define Islam as a political movement with a political aim. May be the most remarkable political movement ever existed on the planet!

If any Yorùbá Muslim chooses, for whatever reason, to place ethnicity above Islam, then that person has failed to grasp the most fundamental principle of our faith: La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah), and nothing has precedence over Him. Such a person's reckoning is with Allah alone. My identity is clear and unapologetic: Islam first. Always. Everything else follows in its proper order.
