The world looks at the body as either an idol to worship or a machine to feed. The Bible looks at it as something that was formed by God, corrupted by sin, purchased by Christ, indwelt by the Holy Ghost, and destined for resurrection. When most people hear the phrase resurrection body, they imagine something vague, thin, mystical, and almost ghostlike, as though eternity means floating around in some invisible fog while plucking a harp in a cloud bank. That is not Bible resurrection. The Lord Jesus Christ did not rise as a vapor, an impression, a memory, or a spiritual metaphor. He rose bodily. He said, “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have” (Luke 24:39). That one verse wrecks a truckload of religious nonsense. Christ rose in a body you could see, hear, touch, and recognize, yet it was a glorified body no longer bound by corruption, weakness, or mortality. That is why this subject matters so much. If the saint is going to be raised in Christ’s likeness, then the resurrection body is not some abstract doctrine for a seminary notebook. It is the future of every believer who has trusted the gospel of the grace of God. It is the answer to the aching back, the fading eyesight, the failing organ, the cancer ward, the funeral procession, the graveyard shift, and every tear ever shed over a body breaking down under the curse. This truth also changes how a believer views life right now. If your body is going to be redeemed, then your body matters to God. If your body is going to be raised, then death is not the end of your story. If your body is going to be fashioned like Christ’s glorious body, then you have no business living like a man whose destiny ends in a worm farm. Paul said, “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body” (Philippians 3:20-21). There is enough doctrine in those two verses to keep a saint shouting for a month. The body you drag around now, with all its limitations, temptations, frailties, and humiliations, is not the last edition. God is not done. The grave is not a trash bin where the body is discarded forever. It is a seed plot. It is a waiting place. It is temporary storage for something God intends to raise in power and glory. So let us look hard at what the Scriptures say about the resurrection body, because the more clearly a believer sees where he is headed, the less interested he becomes in making peace with this present world. 1. The Bible Splits Families Before It Saves Them Truth Draws the Line The sentimental religion of our day has sold people a lie that the gospel is mainly about smoothing everything over, calming every tension, and making everybody comfortable in the same room. That is not how the Lord Jesus Christ spoke, and that is not how the Bible operates. The word of God is not a sedative for rebellion. It is a sword. It cuts before it heals. It divides before it unites. It exposes before it restores. Men want a Christianity that can be laid like a lace cloth over an old rotten table so nobody notices the decay underneath. God does not work that way. He tears the cloth off, points to the rot, and says the whole thing is corrupt. Then He starts rebuilding from the inside out. That process is never neat, never painless, and very often not peaceful in the early stages. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword” (Hebrews 4:12). A sword does not flatter. A sword separates. That is why so many people are shocked when truth enters a household and the first visible effect is not harmony but friction. One member believes the Book, another resents it. One bows to Christ, another feels judged by His presence. One wants holiness, another wants the old ways left alone. One gets saved, and all at once the family secrets, idols, habits, superstitions, pride, traditions, resentments, and false religion that held the family together begin to shake. The family may have had a form of peace before, but it was often the peace of mutual darkness, the peace of spiritual silence, the peace of everybody agreeing not to let God in too far. When light comes in, darkness does not applaud. It resists. Jesus Christ said plainly, “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division” (Luke 12:51). That is not because Christ loves division for its own sake, but because truth always forces men to reveal where they stand. The lie of our age is that love means never disturbing the arrangement. But Bible love does not preserve lies just because those lies have become family furniture. If a family is built on false doctrine, idolatrous tradition, fleshly loyalty, worldly compromise, or spiritual indifference, then the entrance of truth is going to draw a line right through the middle of that arrangement. It will not destroy what is good, but it will expose what has been governing the house. The Lord said, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword” (Matthew 10:34). The modern church hates that verse because it does not sell well in a soft age. But there it stands in the Book, and it explains more household turmoil around conversion and conviction than a thousand counseling manuals written by nervous evangelicals trying to apologize for the edge of Scripture. The Bible splits families before it saves them because truth must draw the line before grace can gather on the right side of it. 1. Christ Warned That Truth Would Divide Households The first thing that needs to be settled is that household division over truth is not a strange accident. It is a declared effect of the entrance of Jesus Christ into human relationships. The Lord was not vague about this. He did not say, “Well, perhaps a few people might misunderstand your commitment.” He said, “For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law” (Matthew 10:35). Then He drove the nail in deeper: “And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household” (Matthew 10:36). That is not liberal theology. That is red-letter Bible. It means the claims of Christ are so absolute that they shatter the false peace maintained by shared unbelief or shared compromise. Now notice what causes the split. 🙏Update after surgery 🙏 Thank you all so much for the prayers today. The surgery was successful and I’m back home now resting and recovering. I’m definitely feeling the pain tonight, but that was expected and I’m thankful everything went smoothly. I’ve seen the overwhelming number of messages, prayers, and encouragement from so many of you. It truly means more to me than I can express. Lord willing, when my head is a little clearer, I’ll try to go through and respond to as many of you as I can. For now I’m going to rest and let my body recover. I may not be posting like normal for a little bit, but my hope is to get back into the daily Bible studies as soon as I’m able. I miss it already.
