To celebrate the new edition of DDIA, revive my writing discipline and my resolve to read the whole damn thing this time, I share my first blog in years: LSM Trees from First Principles. ditsuke.com/lsm-trees
Cindy Sridharan@copyconstruct

there’s a new edition of @intensivedata which is one of the most pivotal technical books written in the last decade, and almost no chatter on this app about the new edition or the new content it covers. Are there no serious engineers and practitioners on this app anymore? 😢

Highly subjective experience but I haven't seen a single person with AI/ML career to speak against using GenAI in artistic work. Everyone is pretty quiet out there on LinkedIn 🤷🏾‍♂️

this tweet shows how out of touch people in tech are. the public barely knows about Stripe, Deel or Rippling. i spent my entire twenties being inspired by many tech billionaires and following their mental models and while career wise i’m glad i did, after the horrors i’ve witnessed in the past 2 years i’ve been truly distancing myself intellectually/spiritually/philosophically from the tech elite school of thought and questioning and redesigning my values and identity. i’ve completely changed social circles and broken friendships because of this and i think it’s important that more people in tech reflect on it. we entered tech to make the world a better place and to equalize opportunities globally. but which tech billionaire is talking about equalizing opportunities today? imo, the public is increasingly hating on tech because tech billionaires who were once inspiring nerds and only focused on building tech that made the world better, started talking about and influencing world affairs ideologically, and the more they did that the clearer it became that they have no understanding of anything outside of their companies, so they had to borrow agendas and views from their nearest smart-sounding and popular person in silicon valley that seemed to understand the world. they ended up adopting agendas that turned out to be alien from agendas of the public and in many cases anti public. this enabled the creation of companies and entire industries that are inherently evil in their use of technology but are suddenly normalized. there’s also an insane amount of hypocrisy, where some tech billionaires say they have value X but when it comes to upholding value X you can tell they clearly have incentives to speak sometimes and shut up some other times despite having all the resources in the world. it’s easier to respect a poor person who keeps silent in the face of injustice than an infinitely resourceful person who (regardless of their view) keeps silent. billionaires can influence government policy but don’t want to be held accountable? that’s a wild, destructive loophole in any political system. the public is smart (contrary to how tech elites often view it) and can respect success that’s result of skill and/or luck but doesn’t infinitely put up with BS
Varunram Ganesh@varunram

It really is understated how much distrust in tech among the general public is caused by Stripe, Gusto, Rippling, Deel, and all the decacorns from the early-mid 2010s hoarding paper gains and (at this point) refusing to IPO at a reasonable time At this point, people outside of tech see tech as a massive casino where their access is gated and everyone inside the casino is making money off them. This will largely be resolved if the tens of thousands of employees working at big decacorns got liquidity and that liquidity flowed back into the economy

@hijunedkhatri It's emotionally draining for people who put all their hopes in these subjective skill tests, while businesses can always choose to put aside emotions and think in terms of market. Lack of empathy is one thing I have seen in organisations. Sorry for vent

@hijunedkhatri Agreed, a sustainable system is hard to achieve, but acknowledging failures of both parties is atleast a starting point. I have had cases from ghosting while being in that 10-12 candidate pipeline to offers being revoked for asking questions.

My first time in Delhi in 2020, I went to the Shaheen Bagh protest place, I met a lorry driver there. Knowing that I was from Kerala, he said it's the best place he likes going to, pronounced Kozhikode in a particular way, bought us chai :)

North Sanghis get Orgasm by spreading fake news and hatred on Kerala. Most of them never visited Kerala. All thanks to their masters in whatsapp university. But people who visisted Kerala and experienced it will tell you what's the truth Hear it from Jharkhand lorry drivers

It’s kind of insane that we’re all lucky enough to live on this insignificant blue ball floating in an endless void that can somehow keep us alive indefinitely and yet a huge chunk of people want to ruin it forever in the name of an economic concept that we made up ourselves

Like the Ukranian flag banner when Russia invaded. DHH says "Just ship code without identity stickers" - There is no code when the maker is unable to produce it because of targeting by identity. Wouldn't you wanna support/help your friend in some manner? I see it like that

#India: We regret fast passage of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, without adequate stakeholder consultation. The amendments risk setting back hard-won rights of transgender people, replacing self-identification with mandatory medical verification processes. India has been a pioneer for rights of transgender & gender-diverse people. This Bill will have far-reaching impacts on right to privacy & risk marginalisation of transgender people.

sorry for harping on this but the problem of “knowing what you want to say but not how to say it” often means you haven’t yet figured out what you want to say. if you turn to an LLM to help organize loose thoughts into prose, you’re outsourcing your cognition to a machine
