‼️40 Years of The Hacker Manifesto (1986–2026)
Today marks the 40th anniversary of "The Conscience of a Hacker," the definitive essay written on January 8, 1986, by Loyd Blankenship, known as The Mentor. Originally published in the underground ezine Phrack following the author's arrest, the Manifesto remains the foundational cornerstone of hacker culture.
It asserts that hacking is driven by intellectual curiosity and a hunger for knowledge rather than a desire to cause harm. Over the last four decades, this text has permeated global culture, appearing in everything from the film Hackers to Edward Snowden’s memoirs.
In 2026, its core message remains timeless: technology should be used to expand our horizons and keep the world free.
"My crime is that of curiosity."
