@douglas1271941 @johnnidijulius I hear you, it wouldn’t be perfect. But implementing such a rule doesn’t seem too difficult to implement. We have so many cameras and would be able to go back and see the exact position they were in and have the referee place them as close as possible to that position again.

@bigZeasy @johnnidijulius That’s tough for wrestling. Lots off factors that are pretty situational. Momentum in a position and just timing is critical. Closest thing to it would be what we have with restarting in referees position or getting choice.

When new rules are added, wrestlers will exploit rules at some point. example: 3 pt td, now they can stall more. If we got to a place where rules remained the same for a decade we will have plateaued as a sport. I want them easy to understand for new fans, but evolving.

@zaintrainusa Thoughts on a rule that returns the wrestlers to the same position they were in prior to stoppage for a challenge? Referencing the Duke/Robideau sequence but would certainly be applicable in other matches this past year. To my knowledge they do this in some other combat sports.

Two rule changes I think could improve NCAA wrestling: 1. The challenge system should mirror college and pro football, where calls on the mat stand unless there is clear and irrefutable evidence to overturn them. 2. Introduce step-outs once overtime begins. Just my two cents!

@visionquestpod “majority” is a stretch. majority of us can appreciate and respect what DT has done thus far at OKST. We just tend to be the silent majority. Majority of the loud ones on socials are obnoxious, I’ll give you that. But like you said, that tends to be the case with most fan bases.

I know some pretty cool PSU fans. With that said, the majority are some real pieces of shit. You could say that about any team really. But, PSU has the dynasty, with tons jumping on the bandwagon. The large majority of those PSU fans are a large reason why people hate on PSU wrestling. It's not even because of the team. Although they don't always help themselves. PSU fans are currently leading the charge of complete asshole fans. I'm sure Jordan Burroughs would agree.
John Smith’s Burner@PokeWrestling34

The biggest reason the storyline of “record breaking PSU team” is dwarfed by “DT and the cowboys” is PSU fans just want to hate on others success and not enjoy their own. I’ve seen too many “enjoy second place” posts and then whining when no one wants to hear about PSUs success

I would not know who to pick for the Hodge at this point. Vega slayed Goliath, didn’t give up a take down. Jax was the most entertaining point scorer and fan favorite. Only wrestled 1/2 season. Mesenbrink tech in the finals was gnarly, Hepner spoiled his perfect bonus.

@jesse_esselman I agree, I think that should be a takedown. And it has been a TD in the past. Whatever sparked this over emphasis on reaction time needs to be walked back quite a ways. So many match altering calls this year. None more punishing than this one.

I dont understand the ref should have let the sequence play out complaint. Refs always stop the sequence in SV when a takedown is awarded.

@HoldyLinez Dude, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Two options 1) it was a TD and Duke got screwed 2) it was not a TD and the whistle shouldn’t have been blown. Idc what the ref “believed”. It either was or was not a TD. Him calling the TD was wrong, hence the whistle was as well.

Yes and no. The ref who awarded the 3 and stopped the action wasn’t anticipating a challenge, he believed it was a takedown, not a near fall situation, so he blew the whistle. In real time, he thought Duke had control and was ending the match. It only changed after review showed that standard wasn’t met.

Hearing a lot of noise about the Robideau vs Duke SV call. By NCAA rule, a takedown requires clear control, not just a locked cradle or back exposure. Control means the opponent is restrained and no longer improving position. In that sequence control was never established beyond reaction time. In sudden victory the first confirmed control ends it. Overturn was correct. #GoPokes

@HoldyLinez I’m not sure if you’re ignoring my point or missing it, my issue is with the whistle. It shouldn’t have been blown. And if you are saying that it was not a TD by default you also think that the ref wrongly stopped the action, correct?

That only applies after control is established. If a takedown is confirmed and back points are coming, then yes, it continues. But if control isn’t established, it’s still a scramble. The whistle is based on the ref believing control was there in real time. In SV he has to stop it if he sees control because the match would be over. Review then determines if that control existed beyond reaction time. It didn’t, so no TD. You’re right we can’t assume what would’ve happened, which is exactly why the rule is based on what was established at the whistle, not what might’ve developed.

@HoldyLinez 2) my argument is the whistle. If we say it’s not a TD then there should not have been a whistle. And you’re right, we can’t assume it would have evolved into a TD. But we also can’t assume it wouldn’t have. And that’s my issue.

That logic applies to near fall, not takedowns. In sudden victory, the ref is required to stop it once he believes control is established because the match would be over. The review then determines if that control actually existed beyond reaction time. It didn’t. You can’t assume a takedown would’ve developed, the rule is based on what was established at the whistle, not what might’ve happened.
