The more I think about this, assuming Bryce Harper is being truthful, I could see a world in which he sues FanDuel. Yes, the Cameo script mentioned “your host Bryttanni from FanDuel” wanting to make it special, but Harper says he recorded it in good faith as a fan message. He had no idea FanDuel would add their logo, turn it into a branded VIP perk, and send it as part of their program to keep big bettors engaged. In his IG statement (in the quoted post), Harper was clear: “I did not know FanDuel would do this. I did not consent to it, and FanDuel had no right to do it.” He joined Cameo for personal fan videos, not this. Even if he knew the requester was a FanDuel host, that doesn’t give them unlimited rights to commercially exploit his likeness/voice with branding. Assuming (again) he’s being truthful, theoretically he could go after FanDuel. Pennsylvania’s right of publicity law (42 Pa.C.S. § 8316) protects against unauthorized commercial use of someone’s name/likeness when it has value - which Harper’s definitely does… no one can argue it doesn’t. No written consent for the promotional repurposing? That’s a potential claim, plus possible false endorsement angles. It’d be messy (MLB gambling rules, Cameo terms, etc.), but if he wants to protect his image from being tied to this controversy, I wouldn’t be shocked if lawyers are already looking at it. Idk, this whole thing is really bothering me. Maybe it’s because I’m a Phillies fan (and love Harper) but this all just seems so wrong.

@kiiLkenny Extremely basic Cameo concept that anyone who has worked in business can easily understand. A rep buying something for a client as a gift is totally normal. What isn’t normal is FD slapping their logo on the video the customer’s circumstances.

Revolting. Tom Dundon had his wife and all five of his children engraved on the Stanley Cup. None hold an official role with the Hurricanes, and the youngest is just 7 years old. We continue to measure literacy in terms of book reading which is nonsensical. The average American reads more text in one day now (due to smartphones/technology generally) than Americans read in one month 30 years ago. Reading a book isn’t a break when you’re reading all day.
