At a point, towards the end of my MSc, I was thinking of Covenant University (CU) as a possible alternative for my PhD if my scholarship applications didn't work out. Of course, I had a thing for the school and I felt it would be a great opportunity right there. I messaged about 2/3 professors in the department of my interest if they would be willing to have me as their PhD student and most importantly if they have funding. I am sure you know why I thought professors at CU should have funding. I just felt something must be different funding wise about the school. I got replies from both professors about how they aren't funded and might not be able to take me in. The next thing I was thinking was to summon the courage to enrol for a paid PhD. But I remembered one of my senior colleagues who had his MSc in the school and left for the UK for his PhD told me, "Nobody will take you seriously doing a paid PhD. You have to think about the quality of your research. PhD is better funded than paying for it." I pretty understand this part. After all, I bore the entire cost for all of my MSc research project 😁 I bought all the consumables myself. Paid for all the analysis from my pocket. 😁 But you know I was still feeling if I had the money I would still start no matter what. At least, it would be better than nothing. On the other hand, I felt his counsel was wise too. I understand this part quite well. As much as getting a funded PhD makes sense, yet, in situations where it doesn't look feasible and you have the means of starting something with your money, it wouldn't be a bad idea either. What I know is that you can always keep making attempts for a funded program while still doing your self-funded program. This won't make sense to anyone who just wants to do a PhD for the fun of it. But if it is strictly required for your career trajectory, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go through this route. Life is about defining what you want and ready to explore several routes that leads to it while trusting God to perfect your plans.

Christian’s didn’t drop a bomb on Japan in the name of Jesus or Allah. The US dropped bomb on Japan in the name of the US. Also, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and the US responded in war which culminated in bombs. Don’t lie or be intellectually dishonest. No Christians are killing in the name of Jesus as are Muslims (in the name of Allah) all around the world.
