The period from prenatal to three is the most critical window in all of human development: a time during which infants and toddlers lovingly apprentice alongside their parents (and other loved ones) as they learn what it means to be human. This video is a beautiful illustration of the awesome responsibility we take on as parents. You can’t miss the little tool belt. Or the hammering. But what I want you to notice here is neither. It’s this little one’s eyes. Apart from a quick glance to observe dad’s actions, our hero’s eyes never leave his father’s face. Even when he himself begins to hammer. The message being conveyed isn’t so much, “I can hammer too,” as much as it is, “Look, Dad, I’m just like you.” Simply beautiful. Thanks to hanny_masters for sharing this identical pair on IG.

I am autistic. I was just shouted at by a staff member in London Victoria to "stop swaying". Autistic people do this to self-regulate, especially during moments of anxiety like their train being cancelled (mine was). Rail staff need Autism Awareness & Acceptance Training.

Here's one easy hack which could improve teenage mental health. Stop telling teenagers that their GCSEs are the most important thing they'll ever do and that if they don't do well, their future life will be blighted. People say this to motivate teenagers but for many it has the opposite effect. One third of teenagers are not going to do well in their GCSEs no matter how hard they work. This is how the system is designed. It's not one in which everyone can succeed. Those teenagers believe you, but many of them also know that they are not going to do well. They think, not only is my life miserable now, it's going to be like this forever. They sink into despair. They lose motivation, they become stressed and anxious - because what is the point? What can we tell them instead? That there will be second chances. That not everyone passes exams. That we will help them find their way to a rewarding future, no matter what happens in their exams. That their worth as a person is not contained in their exam results. Essentially, that there is hope for their future, no matter what.

We need to keep telling this story: “My 18-year-old daughter was at Starbucks, alone, the other night. A man came up to her and started talking to her. A barista handed her “an extra hot chocolate someone forgot to pick up.” How grateful I am for people who look out for other people! Side note: She felt safe and did not remove the lid, but let them know. She said the whole team was watching over her the rest of the time she was there.💚 Thank you to Starbucks for having a great team.”

Young person in care from 11 years old. Placement to Placement, foster carers back and forth. At 18, it's the last hurdle, and she's placed in a run-down block of flats, and independent life as an adult begins. She's on UC and looking for a job. She tries to study in-between applying for work, no electricity. She has no family and a small friendship group. She's left to survive on her own with little but no support. "Define care she says." There is no girl's night out, no new clothes from Zara to make her feel good. It's all or nothing. Abandonment. That's what we call the care cliff. You can start to understand how all the negatives can easily creep into your life. #changeiscoming
