I’m at the Ted event in Detroit at Chroma! Let’s talk transit!

All in all, improvements are being made. Nonetheless, cars are still choking this delightful college town. @cityofmhk could, with minimal effort, be a really good American city for walking and bicycling.

This traffic calming just outside of Aggieville is great! This one looks older. I’d really love to see more of these pop up in Manhattan KS neighborhoods to keep bicyclists and pedestrians safe!

Some cool things and not so cool things on my visit to Manhattan, Kansas. The city where Kansas State University is located is making some urbanism waves, but has a long way to go. 🪡

Being in a sleeper car on @Amtrak Southwest Chief makes me wonder why I have ever flown anywhere. This is such a great experience.

@bikepractically Imho, business class isn't super worth it unless you're tall and need the leg room (I am not). Sleepers though - worth every of the many pennies. 😍

Getting on a bus to go to a short seminar, grabbing a late dinner with friends, and getting right back on the bus to share this tweet with ZERO worries about distracted driving are great things about transit that too few Americans experience. This is freedom🚌

"Whenever some city proposes taking lanes away from a road, residents scream that they’re going to create a huge traffic snarl. But the data shows that nothing truly terrible happens. ...traffic on the road simply readjusts and overall congestion doesn’t really increase."
Brent Toderian@BrentToderian

“We found there’s this perfect one-to-one relationship. If a city increased its road capacity by 10%, then the amount of driving in that city went up by 10%.” Still one of the best articles on why building bigger roads leads to more driving. Via @WIRED wired.com/2014/06/wuwt-t…

I think we can all agree that I-375 needs to be ripped out but people can currently walk safely along Gratiot from Eastern Market to downtown over the bridge. This new @MDOT_MetroDet proposal will have them crossing 11 lanes which consist of a slip lane & 3 pedestrian islands.

I don’t know the legality of a pice of paper duct taped to this pole, but this suv is definitely parked in front of the @smart_movesus and DDOT bus spot.
