It pretends to be the Melbourne @theage, but its fashion section is written in, and for, Sydney readers.

@MelbOnTransit I'm not disagreeing that there shouldn't be more services, since I only use trams and trains (and don't drive at all). However, the political and media culture here is very car focussed and PT won't improve until we overcome that. I wish I knew the answer.

@billisdoing But also a smaller/less intensively served bus network. And trams are more efficient than buses on a passenger carried per driver basis.

The tram patronage graph doing the rounds with maximum waits annotated. Melbourne doesn't do frequency well. Our widespread 30 min intervals on Sunday mornings date back to a 1936 six month trial of Sunday morning service that became permanent. More here: melbourneontransit.blogspot.com/2025/07/tt-208…

Dear ‘teals’, independent MHRs and senators @DavidPocock. Ignore @TurnbullMalcolm. Don’t even think of forming a new political party. Remember what happened to the ‘keep-the-bastards-honest’ Democrats? Your power is your independence.

@TMFScottP We've known for a long time that bipartisan scorched-earth neoliberalism would eventually enable the rise of the far-right. Cf. the USA and UK, and read Listen, Liberal! if you haven't a clue as to why.

The people in the centre and on the left dismissing/misunderstanding the rise of One Nation are making the same mistake as those on the right dismissing/criticising the Teals. If you can only see the world through your own lens, you're missing the bigger picture by a *lot*.

@theage & @smh Herald-Sun recruit, Rob Harris, advocates for the wealthiest Australians. (How does a HS writer get to be national correspondent of our once sensible newspapers?) #auspol

@ArtGalleryofNSW a sole security guard standing full time at this (IMO not exceptional) painting? Really? Surely a waste and playing into false narratives doing the rounds. Oh, and I did see it in the exhibition - I only took photos of works of merit (this is from the program).

@JasonNTCheong Especially stupid when we know AGNSW is struggling financially. If there's really a risk it makes more financial sense to remove the work. After all, arts institutions aren't much troubled by censorship right now.

@billisdoing Yeah. Basking in the attention. And would love that they have special security for his picture. Suits his narrative to a tee. Stupid decision by the gallery.

lord, give me the strength to endure another week where the media discuss the CGT changes with the intensity of a terrorist attack while a third of the country struggle to afford food

For context, this is a prominent member of the Jewish community that has been front and centre playing up the narrative of victimhood. I assume the Gallery would say it's in case of activist actions. To me this just plays into faux fear being promoted for spurious reasons.

It’s embarrassing that the city editor of @theage is so insular that she doesn’t even know how the majority of airports work in her own country.
Bill@billisdoing

@theage journalist has obviously never been out of Melbourne. Lots of airports (the majority in Australia) don’t allow drop off to the terminal door. theage.com.au/national/victo…

@AmeliaBee7 @theage is devoid of creativity at the top, confirmed by turning to people like Mitchell to fill op-ed space. It was once Australia's most creative newspaper.

Neil’s still ranting about “dangerous and deadly” Victoria…..yet, oddly, still chooses to live in its capital city of Melbourne-officially the Most Liveable City in the world-and relax in its elite peninsula resort area….

@ArtistAffame Yes, benefits were very depressed under the last term of the Fraser government. However, in a fashionable move to the right, the Keating government introduced reciprocal obligation which morphed in to MO and allowed governments of all sides to actively punish unemployed people.

I wasn’t aware if this but one of the first things bob hawke did when he was elected in march 1983 was raise jobseeker payments. He didn’t even wait for a budget.

@TerenceMcCart14 @TheCinesthetic Agree, it was amazing. We've re-watched it probably 6 times and learn something new each time. Bonus Melbourne actor in it too.
