At Greenlane, one of our core values is to be helpful—period. I'll be honest if I meet someone whose business and budget aren't aligned with the digital marketing channels we specialize in. This isn't just about business development but proper networking & building partnerships.

The other day, I talked an SEO prospect out of doing SEO. What?!?!?! "Bill, you're always supposed to be developing business for your company!" I agree—but not just any business. It has to be a business that fits our model, where we can be genuinely helpful.

@billsebald Experimentation is key, but clear communication makes all the difference. How do you approach that?

Part of being a great SEO consultant is convincing your client to try things. Saying, "I'd like to add this schema," might be met with, "That costs development funds. No." But creating an environment of experimentation & explaining the why, how, & expected outcomes is essential.

SEO no longer follows universal best practices; you need to dig out the playbook that works for your specific brand and industry. While SEO began in the 90s, it remains rooted in experimentation. I see too many companies and practicioners overlooking this.

@jaredmckiernan The Lichtman model has value in highlighting key political factors but isn't a flawless predictor—it relies on subjective judgments and may not adapt well to changing political landscapes. And we are in some serious flux these days. Oh, and hi Jared. Hope you've been well

I feel like people should be smart enough to notice the "Lichtman model" is obviously post-hoc bullshit?

Here we go again. Now there's "Dopamine Design". Dopamine design uses bold colors, fonts, and patterns to capture attention and evoke pleasure, stimulating the brain's reward centers for instant engagement with products or content. buff.ly/4fuxXCU

I wonder why, even after 30 years, so many people believe SEO doesn’t work. SEO requires total commitment. My current theory is that those who say it doesn’t work likely weren’t genuinely committed to it in the first place.

Survey: Most consumers say price more important than brand In my career, I saw the shift to brands loyalty (I always assumed the rise of social media did this). But when I started, it was all about price. So this is an interesting return. buff.ly/3TT4BWx

Elon Musk says bold text will be removed from X timelines. He also said italics and "any other formatting" would be removed from timelines because they were being "abused" for engagement farming. buff.ly/3BoYrqG

Google is boosting user-generated content in search results to meet demand for authentic experiences, refining algorithms to improve UGC quality. Google explains that this shift addresses the prevalence of low-quality, marketing-driven content on the web. buff.ly/4gJcZBL

Google changes affect everyone equally. Instead of complaining about the SEO algorithm changing YET again, take advantage of the fact that the playing field has YET again been reset(ish)… First movers always make a lot of money in this industry.
