After an incredible career to date at @SandringhamSch1, I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Deputy Headteacher at @Roundwood_Park tomorrow.
I will continue to support @educationgovuk advising on future developments of digital strategy within education!

@sainsburys - I know a cup of tea makes everything better but I still don’t think this is an acceptable substitution attempt!

@JaniceW78256134 @clairebubblepop Many people on low incomes have a smart phone in place of a home Internet connection. Being able to get online isn’t a luxury these days.
English

@clairebubblepop Show me a parent without a smart phone that can't feed their kids.
I'll wait...

Genuinely if you can’t afford VAT for your kids to attend private school…don’t send them. But to expect your kids to be more important than kids going hungry in schools is the sort of arrogance mixed with ignorance that’s ruining this country. Sounds harsh but it’s true, you’ll blame the parents of kids going hungry but won’t accept your own accountability.

@NazMeerhout @dmthomas90 And as we teach more students on average we have more parental concerns and complaints to deal with. In short, I completely and utterly disagree with your point of view!
English

@binarygenius @dmthomas90 Smaller class sizes on average.
Less scrutiny by SLT and Ofsted.
Not as many year groups to teach on average.
Smaller departments for Middle leaders to manage.
Students choose to do the subject and therefore want to be there.
Less pressure from parents on average.
English

@NazMeerhout @dmthomas90 The threat of an Ofsted “deep dive” hangs over all subjects and all departments have to be equally prepared for them, regardless of whether Ofsted is likely to actually see them or not.
English

@NazMeerhout @dmthomas90 Students are required to choose subjects from different “buckets”so there is no guarantee that they’ve chosen the subject because they like it and plenty choose it for the wrong reasons and end up hating it.
English

@NazMeerhout @dmthomas90 As head of a small department I have fewer staff to manage but also fewer staff to delegate things to. We teach every year group and all the planning has to be done by 2 people, who are also responsible for all of the dept clubs and intervention sessions
English

@NazMeerhout @dmthomas90 Our class sizes at KS3 are all the same and in non-core subjects we have more classes that we see less often, meaning teaching more students so more kids to know, write grade sheets about, etc. We have smaller classes at KS4 and 5 in some cases but not all.
English

@NazMeerhout @dmthomas90 In what way do you think teaching non-core subjects is less work? I would strongly argue otherwise!
English

@dmthomas90 One key important change that must be made to pay is not to treat all subjects as equal. Teaching core subjects is a lot more work than teaching non-core. Teaching subjects which require you to plan for materials and practical safety are also harder. [1/2]...

@MrGoodmanSTEM @TeacherTapp Ouch! I hate these questions because I find it hard to calculate, but I don't think I was at 60+ hours! I guess it helps that we didn't get a deep dive...
English

When you get “The Call” the hours worked do shoot up! Now I have a greater understanding why people work these hours when this question is asked! @TeacherTapp

@MrAllington The point isn’t to make children miss out on anything. The point is to inconvenience parents who have the power to vote/lobby their MPs
English

@MrsJMWatson @advanced_ict I think they are all called Computer Science. You’ll be able to check on the exam board websites.
English

@advanced_ict @MrsJMWatson Yes, when I did the A Level (which was available before the GCSE) it was called Computing.

@NiallAlcock Surely the only answer here is to reduce workload to allow teachers the headspace to engage? Appreciate that this is probably outside of the OP’s remit but I can’t see another solution!
