Does providing kids with meals at schools increase their performance? This new meta-analysis addresses this question very rigorously and thoroughly. They create a sample of 2,821 estimates from 42 studies and gather many different aspects about the study design and context. They find that school-meal programs in high-income economies have minimal impact on students' behavior, health, and education. Means-tested programs and breakfast initiatives yield the greatest benefits for children's outcomes.
