And many clinicians do not know about the dangers of mixing psychedelics and haloperidol - the combination can worsen distress/hallucination and physical risks (e.g. hyperthermia)

Most acute psychedelic distress is self-limited and resolves with calm support, not sedation. An MGH Rounds review: de-escalate first, use a benzodiazepine (eg, lorazepam) only if safety is at risk, and reserve antipsychotics — a second-generation agent, not haloperidol — for severe or persistent symptoms. @sharghzadeh @ayatr0llah I guess my point is that we have so many outstanding Iranians in US (limited list below) who have helped build institutions or create entire scientific and other fields in many communities so why do we need a brick and mortar institution just for us?

@pgolshani @seanluomdphd @HenryYin19 ...society or specialized journals, where they did most/all of the work would be a more successful grant writer and educator than the one with a massive cell/nature paper where much of the work and writing was done by others

@pgolshani @seanluomdphd @HenryYin19 Not disagreeing that competition is incredible but my point is that publishing perfect stories in glam mags with 10-20 other authors should not be the litmus test that it has become because it is highly likely that a postdoc with 2-3 smaller first-authored papers published in..

I think our experience with publishing this paper actually illustrates why the current publication system is broken. We had nearly the smoothest possible experience, from Nature to Nature Neuroscience we had the same reviewers who were professional and fair. We didn't have any problems at all but the whole process still took a year and a half. Often this type of paper can take 3 years to publish.

@bita137 @HenryYin19 Young people need very high profile papers to get jobs. It takes so much work after submission to publish. Sometimes revisions can take a year. It's all or nothing for them
