@BattleNonSense @theshooter_44 The fact remains that 94% of disc based games can be fully playable offline, and 73% of games never need to be connected which is a big positive. This could change in the future and future generations, but the large majority do not have drm and not just the equivalent to cdkeys.

@bitcloudrzr @theshooter_44 Look at the trend. It gets more common that games won't run without online activation (DRM) and/or a patch. There is no reason to assume GTA6 (the biggest game ever to release!) will not use online DRM, or require to download a portion of the game to run.

As a PC gamer who's been digital only for 15 years, I dont understand the outrage over #GTA6 not shipping on a disc. - You still have to download a huge day1 patch - it (usually) does not need less storage - and (most) physical games you could not lend or resell for years

@theshooter_44 You should try and disconnect your XBOX/PS from the internet and then install a game from disc. You will find out that online activation/account linking and day1 patches are in many cases mandatory. After that you (might) play offline, just like you can with digital distribution.

@BattleNonSense Having aggressive vs defensive play be something like a 50/50 chance of winning the engagement is good. I would not want the movement to be any slower, or have features taken away from where it is now. 2/2

Current movement is "severely penalized"? I really wonder what kind of movement you guys want to see in Battlefield. Please, provide examples from other games for reference. Also, why should we limit our discussions to "the biggest" issues? How does that help? 🤔
Jelmar@Jelmar

@BattleNonSense @Battlefield Current movement, while severely penalized, isn't even the main issue in BF6 rn. I think even movement enjoyers would agree with that. For some reason it's the anti-movement ppl that keep bringing it up. Biggest issues with BF6 are ttk, spread, netcode, maps, etc.

@BattleNonSense Sliding when introduced in 1 was fine after the first nerf, added movement features without going overboard. Currently playing more defensive (I still use slide aggressively but do not jump shoot) is much more beneficial to ads accuracy and sway. 1/2

@BattleNonSense If you look at sample size engagement on consoles, it is still very high, for example sixth on PSN. Also the 12th best selling game on US PSN before the holiday sale kicks in. The game clearly has continued momentum even with the drop on Steam.

@BattleNonSense @_jjju_ Ideally every season should have one more infantry focused map (Empire, Siege, Iberian, Manhattan), and one vehicle focused.

@_jjju_ The game is currently serving Infantry fans well, for players like myselfe who want Combined Arms Combat (CQ) the game proves exactly 2 maps and the design of CAC is in a very poor state compared to BF4/1/V. Inaction on issues like laser designator does not instill hope.

@JaqubAjmal Again I also understand your perspective coming from within the industry. So your skepticism is not lost on me either. 2/2

@JaqubAjmal I have followed them back when they were called NPD, and have given no reason to disbelieve that they receive all information directly from publishers. There has been a lot of discussion about them and GSD over the years and their legitimacy. 1/2

@JaqubAjmal Yes, it is why Circana only ranked by revenue and you do not get exact revenue or units, same for the consoles. Mat Piscatella does go into some details like how BF6 has been performing in the US. Honestly if you are interested in more, you could always 1/2

@JaqubAjmal It is too bad that we did not talk about this when Gamstat was operation, their api scraping of PSN was extremely accurate. Almost as good as what you can get from SteamDB at the time, but unfortunately the owner did not want to continue after 2021. 2/2

@JaqubAjmal The engagement data from True Trophies is, "over three million accounts from PSN" provided by Game Trends which does the api scraping. They have it behind a pay wall though so it is difficult to see that data, although Sony does do a monthly ranking of most downloaded. 1/2

@JaqubAjmal numbers to Circana which is why AC Shadows is not on the chart, and Nexon does not share which is why Arc is missing. They are only allowed to show revenue rankings as well, and not show exact numbers for each. If they say BF6 is number one, no reason to doubt from my side. 2/2

@JaqubAjmal I think we have to split the conversation in two parts: Circana and GSD are long running and are given data by publishers, I do not think there is any doubt for those organizations when EA, Sony, MS (Beth/Acti), and so on provide information. For example Ubi stopped giving 1/2

@JaqubAjmal As for the PSN/XBL engagement data, you can scrape the api as a site called Gamstat used to do it years ago. Right now there is a much more limited sample from Truetrophies, which gets their data from Game Trends doing something similar. 2/2

@JaqubAjmal If you are talking about Circana, all of their data comes directly from publishers and have been giving monthly information for decades, used to be under the name NPD. I really cannot give you anything else, but you can talk to Mat Piscatella from there on Bluesky. 1/2
