@WVUDingleBerry1 @CFBHome Probably true. I honestly assumed Mercer was in, when Tx St popped up I figured Kentucky was done for. I don’t quite understand how Mercer RPI is so high but all other metrics aren’t that good. Prob shows that RPI is not a very solid metric to use for evaluating tourney teams

@WVUDingleBerry1 @CFBHome Fair point. Think it comes down to what you value more. Also, with Mercer..Uk 6-0 against SoCon (3-0 v Citadel who won the conference). Mercer 4-4 against those same teams. That has to matter to the committee I’d imagine.

@bjackso0 @CFBHome Sure they never got swept, but they couldn’t win a series against the most dog shit teams in the SEC this year

@cougian @davidghugh So reward Mercer for playing 5 non-conf series that were Q4? UK played 1 Q4 non-conf series. Do you think if they played 4 more games against Q1 teams that they would win all 4 and have same record as UK against top8 seeds (5-4)? 15 wins against tourney teams as well.

Can someone explain how Mercer is #28 in RPI yet exclude from the NCAA Baseball Championship? Never been a top 30 RPI team get left out. They won the SOCON, won 44 games, beat GT. Yeah, stumbled in the conf tourney. But if RPI is the ultimate determinant, how are they excluded?

@WVUDingleBerry1 @CFBHome 15 wins against tourney teams. 5-4 against top8 seeds (equates to 3 series). 13 wins in arguably toughest conf. Never got swept. The resume is a total body of work, not how many series you W/L. Sure, have some bad L’s but their W’s are ultimately louder than the L’s

@bjackso0 @CFBHome Losing series is the biggest factor. If it’s not I’d like to see you explain why they should be in?

@davidghugh @cougian Also, .500 in the 12th best conf is completely diff than .500 in 2nd/3rd best conf can’t you agree? 1/2 of Mercer wins were Q4. Over 77% of their wins against Q3/Q4, if you reward that then all mid majors will just play the worst teams possible. Can’t set that precedent.

KY benefits bc they’re in the SEC, a league they weren’t even .500 in. Sorry but if you can’t go .500 in your league, u shouldn’t get a bid to a regional. The 13th best team in their conference (THIRTEENTH!) out of 16 and they got rewarded? 13 SEC teams getting in is absurd. The divide between the big conference and little conferences just got bigger. What a joke.

@cougian @davidghugh I understand that but does who you play (and beat) matter? Mercer accumulated half their wins against Q4 teams. Mercer best W is GT, UK was 5-4 (basically 3 series) against top8 seeds…thats stronger than any other bubble team and it’s not even close. NcSt/TxSt I could listen to

@bjackso0 @davidghugh Losing 80% of the conference series you played means you’re not a good team. You can beat all the other good teams you want, but losing that many games means you’re inconsistent at best, and consistently winning (Mercer) should outweigh consistently losing (Kentucky)

@nashvegas__ Kentucky complete resume was better than every other bubble team pretty easily. Every1 mad at series losses but their quality wins and other metrics were very strong. Not sure where the frustration is coming from nationally.

@TuckerBlanc Kentucky had better metrics in almost every way than Nc St and honestly every other bubble team. Everyone seems upset that Kentucky got in over Mercer but nobody is questioning why Nc St wasn’t even in the last four in?

@KylePWren Best point Ive seen. Every1 wants to point out series losses but never wants to look at quality wins. They have more quality wins than some hosts do. Idc who teams lose to (any1 can do that), but can you prove you can beat the top teams. Winning record over 3 series against top 8

I actually want to hear the argument for Kentucky over Mercer. They play in the SEC is basically the only argument.

Kentucky is in because of course Kentucky is in. 13-18 in SEC, 2-8 in their weekend series, played the easiest schedule in that conference. Lost ALL FOUR series against the bottom-feeders Vandy, Missouri, LSU, and South Carolina. As weak of a SEC resume as you’ll ever see.

@WolfpackFan317 Thanks for the response. I agree, I think it’s so hard to gauge how much conf tourneys matter because some are single elimination (ACC/SEC) while some of the smaller ones are double elim. Not sure how much conf tourney success should go into decision b/c of that

@bjackso0 17 conference wins in the Big 12 along with 33 DSR for TCU. ECU has 33 KPI, 35 DSR (+ a committee member). TX St has a winning conference record and top 30 SOS that NCSU and UK don't have. I wouldn't be mad if they left any of those teams out though.

@Micah_CBC @CollegeBaseCNT @JML_ACC When looking at the last four in/first four out what are the primary metrics or rationale? I’ve looked at a ton of projections and they are all over the place.

As a coach you have to be doing something wrong to continuously get down by 15+ pts in road games. It makes no logical sense.
