Natasha Cloud is regarded as one of the most iconic players in the WNBA, both for her playmaking abilities on the court and her strong activist identity off it. However, with less than two weeks until WNBA training camps open and the season begins, she remains one of the league’s most notable unsigned free agents. Cloud has been one of the WNBA’s most consistent and outspoken voices on racial justice and, more recently, Palestine. With few athletes in mainstream American sports speaking openly about Palestine, her stance has drawn additional attention. Her still being unsigned is also being viewed in connection with her off-court positions, particularly her support for Palestine. In Natasha Cloud’s own words: “If all I do throughout my career is win games, then I’ve failed.”

She literally said this last year as well😭😭why has a whole year gone by and she still can’t get her open looks…Caitlin still has to self create most of her shots while feeding everyone else THIS LADY NEEDS TO BE FIREDDDDD
allison@_girltalk

Teams guard Caitlin completely differently, so they’re having to “find ways to get her high potential looks” through pace, chemistry, and off-ball reps. …And before people get weird, off-ball reps are a way to get her cleaner touches, not take the ball out of her hands.

Angel Reese heads into Year 3 with a fresh start and one clear goal: helping her new team get past the first round of the WNBA playoffs. It has been eight seasons since the Atlanta Dream advanced beyond the opening round, and even with an established core featuring Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, and Naz Hillmon, the breakthrough still has not happened. That group has reached the postseason together three times, going a combined (1-6) in those playoff games. Across those series, one trend consistently appeared: Atlanta’s frontcourt struggled to control the matchup. In Game 1 against Dallas in 2023, the Dream’s starting frontcourt was outscored 22-15 in a seven-point loss. Reverse that battle, and Atlanta likely leaves with an 89-87 victory. In Game 2, the gap became even larger, as the frontcourt was outscored by 25 points in a 27-point defeat. The only playoff win Atlanta has recorded during this stretch also happened to be the one game in which its frontcourt outperformed the opposition. In Game 1 against Indiana last postseason, Atlanta’s starting frontcourt outscored Indiana’s 28-13 before being outplayed over the next two games, including a 26-21 margin in a decisive two-point Game 3 loss. In a league where frontcourt play can shape an entire series, adding Reese alongside Brionna Jones, Hillmon, and 6-foot-6 Madina Okot gives Atlanta a level of versatility and physicality it has lacked in recent postseasons. From July through the end of last season, Reese averaged (17.0) points, (12.6) rebounds, and (3.6) assists against playoff teams. Her value goes beyond scoring. Reese consistently creates second-chance opportunities for herself and her teammates, while also providing impactful rim defense. Atlanta is adding a player capable of creating offense, controlling the glass, and making plays for others. She also showed last season that greater offensive involvement directly affected team competitiveness. The Chicago Sky looked like two different teams depending on Reese’s scoring production. When she scored 15 or more points, Chicago went (6-10) with a -1.4 point differential. When she failed to reach 15 points, the Sky went (4-24) with a -15.3 point differential. The season before, Chicago also went (5-4) in games where Reese scored at least 15 points. If Reese was able to make a rebuilding roster more competitive through her offensive involvement, it raises the question of what that impact could look like on a more complete team. How far Atlanta goes this season may depend heavily on how involved Reese becomes offensively — and whether her presence can finally help the Dream move past the first round. 🪄

How many people die in those countries waiting for care? Not zero! Having some medical debt but your ailment is looooong in the rear view mirror is better than waiting and letting your ailment fester and fester while you wait to receive “free” treatment Sometimes paying with money is better than paying with time. Imagine if every day was free coffee day at Dunkin’ Donuts? I’d rather just pay my damn $3 and be on my way than wait forever to get it for free

Trump just fired all 24 members of the National Science Board. Every single one. By email. No warning. No reason given. The board has existed since 1950. The National Science Board is the independent body that oversees the National Science Foundation, the agency that distributes $9 billion in research grants every year. Its members are scientists and engineers from universities and industry. They serve six-year staggered terms specifically so they cross presidential administrations and stay independent of whoever is in power. On Friday, every single one of them got the same boilerplate email from Mary Sprowls of the Presidential Personnel Office: "On behalf of President Donald J Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as a member of the National Science Board is terminated, effective immediately. Thank you for your service." That's it. That's the whole letter. For 76 years of institutional independence. The NSF funds the basic science behind MRIs. Cellphones. LASIK eye surgery. GPS. The internet itself. The Antarctic research stations. The deep-space telescopes. The research vessels mapping the ocean floor. Every breakthrough that made America the world's leader in science for the better part of a century traces back through grants this agency made and this board approved. The board chair, Victor McCrary, was actively advising Congress on Trump's proposed 55% cut to NSF's budget. The board was helping fight back. So Trump fired the board. Marvi Matos Rodriguez, one of the fired members, told reporters she had been reviewing an 80-page report as part of her board duties just days before being terminated. Keivan Stassun, a physicist at Vanderbilt, said NSF's leadership had already stopped responding to board oversight requests months ago. "We would ask them, 'Are you following board governance directives?' And their answer would be, in effect, 'We don't listen to you anymore.'" Now there's no board to answer to. Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, the top Democrat on the House Science Committee, called it "the latest stupid move made by a president who continues to harm science and American innovation. Will the president fill the NSB with MAGA loyalists who won't stand up to him as he hands over our leadership in science to our adversaries?" That's the actual question. Because while Trump is firing American scientists, China is building research universities at a rate we cannot match. The CDC just buried a study showing vaccines work. RFK Jr. runs HHS. The EPA is gutted. The Forest Service is being broken. Half of American children are breathing dangerous air. And now the people who decide what gets researched in the United States have all been fired by email on a Friday afternoon.
