The President is Irelands lefty version of Trump. Statements devoid of meaning and ignoring the fact that economic growth is the path out of poverty both here and abroad. Economic growth and rising life expectancy are two of the best metrics there are.

What strikes me is the eagerness of this pillar of the British establishment and of senior Conservative figures to heap gratuitous abuse on a serving U.S. President in a fit of pique. They are at risk of becoming partisan in US politics, which is always an unwise move.
