Rich Paul says he BEGGED the Pelicans to draft his client Tyrese Maxey at pick 13 in the 2020 draft 😳 The Pelicans passed because the analytics said Tyrese Maxey wasn’t a good enough 3PT shooter at the time The Pelicans selected PG Kira Lewis Jr instead (Via Game Over)

3-2-1 lottery system updates, per @mikevorkunov: - System scheduled to be in place for 3 seasons through 2029 draft - "Draft credit system" seen as leading contender to take effect after that - Rules on teams not being able to pick first 2 years in a row or top-five 3 years in a row are backdated and apply to traded picks, meaning the Grizzlies' 2027 pick from Utah in Jaren Jackson Jr. trade would be capped at 6th overall - Adam Silver can fine a tanking team up to $10 million, force them to forfeit or transfer draft picks, reduce lottery odds, change draft positions, or suspend team officials

funnily enough, all of the even slightly “advanced” analytics projected maxey as a far better shooter than his college efficiency indicated

Study: Deep 3PT Rate Supplements Poor Shooting Efficiency Shooting Efficiency is very important, but doesn't tell the entire story. Especially, for inefficient shooters like Demin, Maxey, McDaniels who shooting translated to the NBA. The Missing Key?: Deep 3PT Rate (25+ feet) Deep-3 volume seems to signal shooting ability that TS% can’t capture, since poor efficiency can be driven by shot difficulty rather than lack of shooting ability. Taking difficult long jumpers aren't true indicator of their shooting ability. It does suggest confidence and skill validated in practice/coaches. I've built a simple query of all inefficient PGs, SGs, SFs drafted in first round (since 2019), that shot high Deep 3PT Rate. There was a 100% success rate that their shooting translated to the Pros. This leads me to believe, even if you're an inefficient Shooting 1st round graded prospect, as long as you're shooting enough Deep 3PA, the shooting will translate to the next level. draftcasual.com/home/stats?pla…
