On This Day in Cybersecurity — March 4, 2016 The hacktivist collective Anonymous launched coordinated cyberattacks as part of #OpIsrael. Among the targets was the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). No sophisticated zero-day. No data breach headline. Just traffic. Overwhelming traffic. The site was knocked offline as part of a politically motivated campaign. This wasn’t about stealing information. It was about disruption. DDoS attacks target availability, the most overlooked pillar of security. If users can’t reach your platform, your message, services, and operations stop. For advocacy organizations, media platforms, and public institutions, that downtime becomes reputational damage. It reinforced that cyber operations aren’t always financially driven. Some are about visibility, influence, and narrative control. And DDoS remains one of the most accessible attack methods, even today. Availability is security. Resilience planning should include: • DDoS mitigation services • Traffic filtering strategies • Redundancy • Clear communication playbooks Because sometimes the attacker doesn’t want your data. They want your silence. #CyberSecurity
