@JohriSonika Thanks for the honest feedback, Sonika. We recently launched an effort precisely aimed at addressing this shortcoming. If you have specific examples where we fall short, please file issues to help direct our efforts!

Why does it feel like Qiskit from IBM is being constantly updated by 10 different teams, none of whom are talking to each other? Things are inconsistent between docs and github comments, different conventions followed in different parts of the API, incompatible details in the interfaces between objects that are supposed to be used together, frequently code links in the docs are dead. There is a proliferation of ways to create a simple Bell state, but anything slightly more sophisticated requires a bunch of ugly hacks and hours of trying to decipher the libraries. It would be good if they would focus on a clean interface with some clear design intent rather than constantly adding new routines to the API, many of which are unusable because of all these issues. I guess it's fine if treated as a research project but it's very far from being a reliable software product as claimed on their website:

@BrevilleUSA is this a defect or intentional? My oven is mounted at eye height, so the display is essentially invisible for me.

Earl I will make a few comments. The first is pushing average gate fidelity has not been the problem. In fact we regularly see above >99.9 in two qubit gate error. The hard part has been *stability* of two qubit gate error and cross-talk and both of these needed new technology.

My two cents on the twitterati debate of whether qubit quality has not been increasing (fast enough?) because of the focus on qubit count.

With a landmark paper published in @Nature, researchers from @IBM Quantum and @UCBerkeley are demonstrating the usefulness of the quantum computers we have today, opening the door to a new era in quantum computing—the era of quantum utility. ibm.co/3X5TAlc

Published today in @Nature with our co-authors at @UCBerkeley, we have demonstrated for the first time that quantum computers with 100+ qubits can produce accurate results - and reach beyond leading classical approaches. ibm.co/3JfBZ4m

For Qiskit Runtime users, primitives have become a core piece of the platform, but learning to use them can be a tad overwhelming. On this week’s blog, Qiskit developer advocate Abby Mitchell and Luciano Bello break down primitives for you. qisk.it/3Nf1oxS 1/7

@jfitzsimons In that case, almost certainly Osprey. As most of what makes it expensive to produce modern CPUs is lithography tools that can produce small feature sized with high yield and high volume. The smallest feature sizes in a superconducting QPU are not too dissimilar.

A sentiment that is widespread within the quantum computing community is that it is fundamentally harder to build QCs than PCs. Let me test that with a provocative poll. Do you think it would be more expensive to build a dedicated fab to produce Apple M2 or IBM Osprey chips?

@jfitzsimons And are we referring to a low volume (prototype) fab for each?

@jfitzsimons Is that tag supposed to include the cost of developing the design to produce in said fab? Because I can purchase ARM IP for the chip design.

My twitter feed is full of negative takes on the @TIME quantum computing cover story, but I must admit that I was excited to see it and view it as something of a milestone in terms of QC entering the public consciousness. So here’s a thread in defence of quantum optimism. (1/n)

The last couple years have convinced me that error mitigation is a lot more powerful than I previously thought. Last week, Sarah Sheldon and Youngseok Kim showed how error mitigation can enable dramatically larger circuits: youtu.be/qsf_dZskFiI

This is a really big deal! It's not all the way there to error correction, but it brings us that much closer. Congrats to @blake_johnson and the IBM Quantum team. When I'm asked how quantum computers will change everything, my answer may be "sooner than we think."

Quantum Computers could one day unlock customized medicine and drugs, reduce drug discovery to a simulation, and defeat RSA encryption. But for years, the answer to when has always been, "it'll be a while". That answer may be sooner than we think. 🧵
