But we have to take the chance at 3 units of profit -Since coming into the league, Burns has a 34 K% and 98 MPH fastball. Both of those put him in the top 10 of the league. However, it’s his slider that has been his go-to strikeout pitch, getting 12 strikeouts on 22 ABs when using his slider. -Against Righty Sliders, Washington ranks in the top 10 in Whiff% in July. For a team that doesn’t strike out a ton, they have struggled against high-velocity fastballs and sliders. On Friday, Cease got a 31 Whiff% on his Slider. Burns’ Slider has more break and a faster velocity (avg 90 MPH) -Burns’ biggest problem this year will be he can get through 5+ innings consistently and avoid long at-bats. Because he is mainly a 2 pitch starter, batters pick up on that 3rd time through the order and could get to him. Several at-bats this year have gone 10+ pitches due to foul balls. -I don’t think this will be a problem vs the Nationals. They are bottom 10 in BB%, wRC+, Pit/PA, and FB% vs RHP in July vs RHP.
