Current trends and what will probably become a windshield wiper effect won’t really be settled until we get hands on observations from this surface high in western Canada IMO. I haven’t seen any dramatic shifts in its strength or position on modeling enough to make me question too much. That and the fact that these surface highs behave more like density currents at times. Considering the modeled intensity of said high I think it’s important to remember the number one rule of forecasting Arctic air masses: shallow cold air always wins. This will likely move down the plains faster and be colder than modeled, but this is why getting hands on observations is going to be important in coming days.
