@RenaldoGouws Because we don't have thresholds, Al Jama-ah, with a vote share of 0.86%, has been able to put 2 Joburg mayors in power. There are 8 parties in Joburg with less than 1% vote share. They shouldn't have so much power.

The DA has moved from a political party offering hope to one scaring its voters into voting for them. This negative campaigning speaks to a bigger issue within the DA. They can't offer solutions, so they try to spread fear. Vote for who you want, but I suggest you vote based on your values and principles, not out of fear.

I think the most disappointing aspect here is that people bought into the idea of the GNU because what the DA was doing in opposition worked, and they thought that would translate into government. Now the DA is in government, and instead of taking the lessons it learnt and applying it they are just replicating what the ANC has done for the last 3 decades... but a little more efficiently. How passionate and dedicated can you truly be to the residents of Jozi if you are willing to pack your bags and move back to Cape Town if you don't become mayor? This should just prove that it's all about positions and not because there is an actual concern for the citizens of the metro. Don't you think that a true leader would remain in the metro and fight tooth and nail to prevent it from deteriorating further? If any other political party candidate said what she said here, then that would be the end of their campaign, and their political party would more than likely replace them as the candidate. Legalize artisanal mining in South Africa, train unemployed youth & ensure safety standards. Unionize spaza shop groups & manage them similarly to taxi associations - without the violence. Dismantle the monopoly of the GEPF & PIC. It's insane that govt employees can't choose where to invest their pensions. Federalize South Africa. Ensure autonomy of each state. Put up surveillance cameras all over South Africa. Including dashcams in all cars. Scrap financial requirements to register political parties & independent candidates. Set a 75% quorum for all voters to vote, otherwise elections are invalid. Count all spoilt ballots as votes & put empty seats where they add up to a seat in parliament. Allow South Africans to vote directly for a president. 2nd highest votes automatically become deputy president. President should have a lot of their powers diluted. Political, legal & financial literacy should be integrated subjects from grade 1. Scrap all kings & monarchs. Let the state take over all tribal land & redistribute it with families who live there or need it. Privatize all SOEs, besides core infrastructure, water, electricity, roads, ports, etc. End.
