Who exactly is SUPERGIRL for? SUPERMAN opened to an audience that was 68% male. Comic-book movies almost always lean heavily toward men, especially on opening weekend. SUPERGIRL could have gone after an underserved mother-daughter or sisterly audience. There have not been many major movies this year built around that kind of shared experience. But Warner Bros. never really sold it that way. The marketing has focused on Kara being angry, drunk, rebellious, and out for revenge. Then Jason Momoa shows up as Lobo to keep the male comic-book audience interested. So is this aimed at women? Families? Teen girls? Male DC fans? All four? Because right now it feels like Warner Bros. made a movie for everybody without giving any one group a reason to believe it was specifically for them. The online argument over whether Milly Alcock is “attractive enough” is stupid and unfair. But it also shows how much of the conversation is still being driven by men judging a female superhero rather than women connecting with her. Now tracking has softened, and I think part of the problem is simple: Nobody knows who this movie is for. Can SUPERGIRL build a new audience, or is Warner Bros. still expecting the same male comic-book crowd to carry everything?

Congrats to this shitshark on becoming a zookeeper. 🤦🏻♂️
