@upshine3 Family last names that end up as given names, like "Parker" or "Harrington." Or an third-generation male name that ends up with the nickname "Trey."

The invitation said the attire was country chic… and I had no idea what that meant. 😂 So I pulled out some upcycled denim, added a tuxedo shirt and my blazer with the brooches…and somehow ended the night crowned Best Dressed Female. 👑🏆

@TheCinesthetic A lot of those people were famous before the were on Miami Vice. Barbra Streisand, for instance. Little Richard. Glenn Fry of the Eagles. Sheena Easton was very famous at that moment in time. Gene Simmons from Kiss. They had a kind of "get famous music people" going on.

One of the wild things about Miami Vice (1984–1989) is the parade of future stars who popped up before they were famous. Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, Liam Neeson, Benicio del Toro, Michael Madsen, even Chris Rock.

@HannahWardEdu @Monica_Wilcox Kindle books are still books. We cut our library done to probably around 300 physical books, everything else is kindle. Vintage or antique books, art and design books, photograph or graphic heavy books, etc., are better in hard copy, but we purged a lot.

How does your home library stack up? In 2023 YouGov surveyed 29,000 Americans to see how many books they have in their homes. The results were disappointing to say the least. - 0 books: 9% (no books AT ALL) - 1–10 books: 20% - 11–25 books: 14% - 26–50 books: 13% - 51–100 books: 12% - 101–200 books: 10% - 201–500 books: 7% - 501–1,000 books: 4% - More than 1,000 books: 3%

Who the f*ck cares whether Trump buys his own groceries or not? Rich people aren't affected by grocery prices. That doesn't mean I want the local manager of Trader Joe's running the country. When did buying groceries become a virtue, or a measure of someone's effectiveness to govern? Do you think Nancy Pelosi buys her own groceries? Barack Obama? Bill Clinton? Probably not, and I don't hold that against them. How do you connect these two things in your mind and come up with a qualification for President including buying your own groceries? Really? That's what you came up with?

Just called Thomas Massie. Phone rings. Thomas answers. Me: hey what are you doing? Massie: I’m at Kroger. Call you back in 10. lol, he’s knows the grocery prices. Do you think Trump has been to a grocery store to do his own grocery shopping in the past 30 years? Nope.

We did. But it was a thing. Rock stars were having relationships with 14 and 15-year-olds. Pretty Baby, with a sexualized, 11-year-old Brook shields came out in 1978. Jody Foster was twelve years old when she filmed 🚕 Driver, which was released in 1976. Tweener and teenage girls as sexualized objects were everywhere. We lived it. There was weird shit going on everywhere. But we had no power. And it didn't really seem that weird at the time. We grew up quick. Some guy calling you baby was cool. Teenage girls have fantasies about older guys and we all had the hots for rockstars that were 10-15 years older than us. Nobody even thought that much about Love's Baby Soft. The commercials were somewhat provocative and transgressive. (I seem to recal that one of the advertisements was a very young girl made up to look older, and that raised some eyebrows.) But pushing all kinds of envelopes around sexuality was the meme of the seventies, and advertising was a totally different thing than it is now. It's super weird to see the advertisements now, but back then, we all went out and bought it at least once (it was awful). We didn't have much of a clue we were constantly being groomed, one way or another.
