A public service announcement (if I may): A nutty person is a “wack job” (goes with “wacky”); a “whack job” is a Mafia hit, perhaps. “They chose this wack job to do a whack job and he screwed it up.”

@HistoryNevada Thats my great-grandfather! James Dingle Foster. He wasn’t really a “Reverend” though. Mostly a guy who found interesting ways to make money. 😊

@HistoryNevada There were Caesar’s patrons, inside, gambling, who didn’t know it even was raining. (It didn’t rain alarmingly in the Valley.) Then they walked outside & their car was garbage, buried under garbage. I was jealous of kids riding inner tubes down the street.

Thunderstorms west and north of Las Vegas, NV, with more than 3" of rain in places. resulted in severe flooding in town on Jul 3, 1975. bit.ly/2sFqWr1 It is sometimes called the Caesars Palace flood because of the damage there, including to about 400 cars.

Professors: How do you usually handle tipping in your classes? I write my venmo up on the board the first day so students can express their appreciation for an especially well-delivered lecture. Other ideas worked better for you?

@RexChapman I was always smiling goofily like that, while my sister looked mildly bemused.

@RexChapman In “The Sound of Music” they dubbed Plummer’s singing voice. Here’s his real voice, singing “Edelweiss”. They shouldn’t have dubbed it - he’s good. youtu.be/obEm1Mqm7C0

There’s no point trying to have a discussion about what the voices in someone else’s head are saying.

Sorta misses the point of requiring you to enter a code to use the coffee-shop restroom but I’m not surprised to see this.

Picture of my dad (on the right) from an old Las Vegas newspaper article - likely late 1950s-early 1960s - that a friend from LV just found and emailed to me.

@RBrookhiser Saw this today. It made me realize that you have to be at least in your late 40s (it was 12/31/83 when it all ended) to understand the reference. I wonder where the last of these will be....

@gabrielmalor If you had quickly to prove you had received all standard vaccinations, could you? I believe I was properly vaccinated but I’ve no idea where such records are located.

@SethAMandel Because tribalism usually beats ideology. It’s much more fun & requires less thought. And because for the most part, one’s professed “ideology” is more a matter of marketing & tribal membership than of a coherent, authentic approach to law, politics, etc.

The eternal question. If you ever find out please let me know. Signed, editor of a magazine that likes to debate ideas.

@SethAMandel I follow you for your music tweets & I know you or no one on twitter gives any shits what I think. I’ve read the twitter crap today. I’m an independent thinker & voter, I can’t figure out why conservatives, pro or anti Trump, tear each other down instead of agreeeing to disagree!

@OrinKerr @brianbeutler The “whatif” scenarios are useful only if tribal hackery isn’t so universal as to make it jaw-droppingly remarkable when someone in public life demonstrates a modicum of intellectual & moral consistency.

Imagine if the Starr Report had been provided only to President Clinton's Attorney General, Janet Reno, who then read it privately and published a 4-page letter based on her private reading stating her conclusion that President Clinton committed no crimes.

@SethAMandel Potential Rule: When you want to preface X with: “I’m not afraid to say” the chances are good that X isn’t so much something you need to be “afraid” to say so much as X is something stupid to say.
