The Browns broke ground on their new $2.4 billion suburban domed stadium despite funding still being in limbo.
The stadium is planned to open in 2029, but key parts of its financing plan, however, are up in the air.

@be_happyto @BrianCostin The megaproject bill is to prevent record breaking taxes for a stadium. Bears also need infrastructure, which every big business gets when they invest BILLIONS. As far as the development, they are 100% privately funding it.

Arlington Heights Megaproject = property tax disaster.
I did the math. A typical homeowner of a $400k home who shares the Megaproject local governments could pay $500K+ extra over 45 years due to Phantom EAV tax shifts.
When the untaxed construction hits the property tax rolls, local governments can use it to raise taxes for people outside the MegaProject without referendums.
60% increases in year one (after construction completion) then bigger CPI increases every year after that.
Taxpayers in the following districts have the most to worry about from a MegaProject tax disaster.

• Village of Arlington Heights: +$94K
• D211: +$53K
• Arlington Heights Park District: +$46.7K
• D214: +$38.5K
• Library: +$36.6K
• Others add thousands more
Total: ~$520K–$540K per household

They’re just all stalling - the soldier lease ends in 2033, this new stadium won’t be done until 2031 maybe later. City gets the Bears basically through their lease.

Chicago Bears brass met virtually today with the NFL's Stadium Committee to discuss the team's two proposed stadium sites. The Bears presented an update on the Arlington Heights, Ill. and Hammond, Ind. sites. Per source, the committee members agreed that these 2 sites are the only viable options and expressed a need to move the process forward "expeditiously." There was no vote taken but the Stadium Committee will meet again within 2 weeks. Source says that the committee also acknowledged the Illinois legislature needs to continue to work to move the process forward, which will now require the PILOT bill to move through the senate.

@NateBuiltIt @AdamHoge I bet if a reporter dug deep enough, you could find some handshake deal between the NFL & the Bears that says if the Bears forget about the 2 comp picks for Ian Cunningham, the NFL will emphatically help them w/additional resources for a new Bears stadium, wherever it goes.

The problem is Indiana would own the stadium and the Bears would have to lease it, they don’t like a lease they have now. Plus the state of Indiana would get all the revenue of non Bears events, so that defeats the purpose for the McCaskey’s. They want to own the stadium so they get revenue from not Bears games

If Austin Booker and Shemar Stewart don't take massive steps forward, this edge group is in big trouble. I don't think the DT group has any chance of being good. Overall, the DL is bad and it will more than likely be the reason why this team fails to go far in the playoffs.

Based on this, I find it interesting that he flagged the amusement tax as a big issue for the Bears, that they had said that prior to the bill passing, and it was in there anyways.
This is no longer a bill being worked on to keep the Bears in Illinois.

Gov. Pritzker says “there is a need for speed” to get the megaprojects bill done, though “the Senate has some work to do, and there will be amendments.” “I think we'll have a good bill at the end of the process in the Senate and something that will work for the Bears.”
