@block_burn Agree, but that’s not the point here. The point is that the EU has one of the fastest growing companies in the world, and instead of asking how they did it and helping them grow/fox their stuff, some guy is exposing them for not getting their taxes in order on time.

@MarceloFlipas Compliance is an enemy of innovation so that’s why we need to disrupt it ! I think you should check what @Inflowpay is building

Compliance is the enemy of innovation. Any engineer worth their salt knows that disrupting reality requires violence (breaking things!) You don’t achieve that by being a good compliant boy…

If you want to sell a service such as @Lovable globally and want to jump over VAT/tax everywhere is that OK and fair? Togheter with the journalist @emilhellerud we tracked Lovable receipts and found zero tax compliance(EU). Broadcasted on TV4.

The VAT System in the current form is a huge administrative hurdle. US companies usually avoid dealing with it for as long as they can. Vercel still does not charge VAT. There has to be a better way.

The real scandal is that its so complicated to be compliant in the first place. There are reasons @compliantvc is so popular. Even for my small business I pay several thousands per year to my accountant just to deal with VAT categorisations. Reverse Charge my ass please.

@roygro1 @GergelyOrosz AI wave won’t help. It will get harder, you can sell anywhere instantly, and then tax management becomes a nightmare. People think the US is easy, but multi-state compliance is horrible.

@GergelyOrosz It almost feel like Europe (compared to the US), somehow suppresses entrepreneurship. Maybe the AI wave will shake things up, but for now the gap keeps growing and closing it won’t be easy.

This is one example of why European tech startups are competing handcuffed vs US startups. Here’s Lovable, one of the few massively successful startups employing a bunch of people in the EU, growing fast. A Swedish entrepreneur attempts to take them down w EU VAT concerns. 😡

@GergelyOrosz Large US players can absorb this. Smaller EU companies get crushed by 50+ conflicting frameworks before they even scale. The problem is global infrastructure, not one jurisdiction. It’s just that EU is louder about it.

@GergelyOrosz The issue isn’t just EU VAT. Any startup selling globally faces a fragmented maze: EU VAT, US sales tax nexus, UK VAT marketplace rules, GST in APAC …

Whop is now officially independent from Stripe. What this means for anybody running a business on Whop: > Orchestration through multi-PSPs is now available (lifts your revenue by 5 - 10%) > Sellers can get paid out in nearly every country via local banks, BTC, or stablecoins > We’ve lowered our credit card rates to 2.7% + 30 cents —- We think that one day, money will be a commodity. The goal of Whop is to expedite that process. Today, we have taken a step forward in commoditizing payments so that everyone in the world can accept credit and debit cards the same way large enterprises can. Payments from the future are available today — whop.com/payments

Like many crypto founders, I've been debanked. One day, you're processing millions; the next, you get an email: "We're exiting crypto relationships, effective immediately." That's it. Game over.

@jasonleowsg @marclou Has less to do with stripe, and more to do with card networks. You will still lose the disputes, as stripe doesn't have much to do with it. If you were your own merchant of record, those are the fees for disputes, it's basically a fine for being non-compliant.
