Oh... so a government CAN leave VPNs alone and let people have a crumb of privacy online. Maybe the politicians treating us like some sort of menace to children's safety are actually NOT correct? Food for thought! 🤔🙄

@Thundercattttt0 Unfortunately this is the likely outcome. A fundamentally different type of government has to come into power to actually respect people's privacy rights. Otherwise they will simply slap a new label on the same crap and try to shove that one through.

There is literally no reason to gatekeep resistance, especially to such an important issue that is playing out globally. Yes, Chat Control is EU's legislation, but its goals are a problem in many countries around the world. Canada's Bill C-22, which can force any business to log user metadata for months, points to other countries that have passed similar laws as a reason for Canada to do it too. The more countries that enact these laws, the easier it is for even MORE countries to enact these laws.

@windscribecom In general you are right. But I have a serious problem with foreigners focusing on it, especially Americans. OK, you are Canadian. But don't exaggerate it. We are thankful for real support but we will see it with a strain of salt.

EU's Chat Control is back from the dead. • It was defeated TWICE in March 2026 • Resurrected from the dead by EU council leaders • Thrown into an emergency vote a week ago • Vote is on the last day before MEPs go for summer break - many already went home • Vote threshold flipped, majority now required to DEFEAT Chat Control, as opposed to the regular procedure of majority needed to PASS it • Absent/Abstain votes counted as supporting Chat Control Chat Control 1.0 passed in the EU today because of the slimy, undemocratic tactics that were used. Because despite it being defeated before, there were not enough votes today to defeat it AGAIN with all these new conditions. And then they spit in your face, telling you how important democracy is in Europe. They're laughing at you. What a disgrace.

@windscribecom It's ridiculous. Countries need to leave the EU ASAP, or refuse to enforce. The people need to resist with cypherpunk tech, or (better yet) just leave.

@LyudaKozlovska @EU_Justice Exactly. The EU just did one of the most undemocratic things they could, and then turn around and tell you to protect democracy. Like it's somehow your fault that democracy isn't upheld in places, even though they're the ones destroying it in front of your eyes.

@learnwithdaksh The EU council behind this should be ashamed of themselves. They have zero right to say they care about democracy or EU citizens ever again.

The EU is not a democracy. They're closer to a guy who keeps pressuring a girl to sleep with him despite her saying no. 5 times now. But he won't stop. We're at the stage where he's giving her alcohol and making her drunk so she struggles to say no. Over the last 3 years, Chat Control and similar scanning measures have been defeated or blocked 5 times. The citizens of the EU and members of EU Parliament have made it abundantly clear - they don't want Chat Control. This latest attempt by the EU is the slimiest one yet. Revive dead legislation that was already defeated, flip the passing criteria so that majority don't need to SUPPORT it, majority need to DEFEAT it, and as the cherry on top, hold that vote on the very last day before Parliament members go on summer break so that many don't show up. Oh and if they don't show up, it counts as a vote to pass Chat Control. You can dress it up in as many legal technicalities and loopholes as you want, what the EU is doing here is fundamentally undemocratic. No means no. And if you ever saw a guy pressuring a girl into sleeping with him with disgusting tactics after she said no THIS many times, you would consider him to be a rapist. So congrats to the EU on adopting rapist strategies to your governance.

The EU Parliament REJECTED Chat Control, but now they are forcing us to vote it AGAIN to revive it. What kind of democracy is this if we're forced to vote on the same issue over and over until they get the result they want? My colleague @MarketkaG explained the situation very well in plenary👇🏻

The problem is that before, the vote needed a majority of members to support it or the legislation was defeated. Now for this vote of legislation, which has already BEEN defeated before, PASSES if the majority doesn't vote it down. They've swapped how it passes, so the default failure to get majority means the law goes through. The other problem is that this vote is taking place one day before the EU parliament members are going away for summer break. Many have likely already left for their break and won't come back to vote on this. These would be abstention votes, except abstention votes are counted as yes votes - as in, yes I want chat control to pass. They essentially just made the vote extremely annoying for the members, and if they don't show up to defeat it, then chat control passes.

The UK should consider a new law where their government gargles my nuts. What the hell is wrong with that country? It's like every week they spin a wheel to decide what freedom they will outlaw for the public, and then make a genuine effort to actually do it.
Pubity@pubity

The UK is considering new laws that would force YouTube and other social media platforms to prioritize "trustworthy" news sources. If passed, trusted media sources like the BBC would get prioritized over content creators in the UK.
