@SusanLeenaars I could, or the person in question could be a bit more considerate of others who also need those spaces

@blueshevy Maybe you should ask your golf course to make more accessible parking spots ?

It’s cold, wet and with someone with MS I’ve had no access to the disabled parking because a girl parked there without a permit. I called her out. She called me a “piece of shit”. I took pics and sent them to the council.

@jazzbluecat @SusanLeenaars I understand that. The concern is them “tieing up” the space that others could need and use while they are out on the course

@SusanLeenaars Yes they do use a cart, and there is no problem with them using the parking space to access that. What is problematic is them then effectively blocking that space to others for the 4+ hours while they are out on the course.

@blueshevy Do they use a cart ? Is it possible that the more accessible parking allows them to use their energy on something they enjoy doing ? I’m sure they’ll give their parking permit if you take their MS as well .

@CarlaCVanhoy I seem to remember bubblers being there, but can’t recall ever drinking from one. Never saw a water bottle until I was a full grown adult. Sports games if you were lucky you got a quarter of an orange to suck on

@policywishes @Paul_L_OBrien When my mum asked where someone (gone) was I would shrug and say “I’m not sure where they’ve got to, somewhere around I think”. We also spent a bit of time waiting for the boarding call for flights (apparently) She was happy with that

From the files of an Alzheimer’s caregiver. Today my mom asked me at least 20 times where my dad is. He died in 2002. She asked me at least 20 times why I was sitting in a recliner resting. I had a painful surgery last week and I’m still recovering ( barely) She asked me at least 20 times when her parents were going to stop by. They have been dead for 40 and 35 years respectively. She asked me where Paul is 20 times ( that’s me) She wandered around every time I turned my head away from her. She walked by with no clothes on once. She went into the bathroom and locked herself in. All while I tried to watch her 24/7 while on painkillers. At least I could laugh and even asked her if she’d like to dance once. Thankfully she said absolutely not. 🤣 God bless her. Alzheimer’s is a vicious disease.

@financedystop I love Indian food, but if you can do yourself a favour and try Fijian Indian. It is even more delicious. There is a well known Fijian Indian restaurant in Canberra, Australia that I would walk across hot coals for

The life of a boomer: - Graduated when a degree guaranteed a job - College tuition cost 6 blueberries - Worked at one company for 30 years - Bought a house at 22 on one income - Wife could stay home & raise the kids - Monthly mortgage cost less than Netflix today - Networking happened at the strip club - “Work hard & you’ll get ahead” was actually true - Promotions meant life changing money & not just a pizza party - Passed on their generational trauma to their kids - Rode a historic bull market into retirement with a fat pension - Sold their house for 30x what they paid - Enjoy their social security checks while the fund runs out of money - Tell their kids to stop buying lattes

What BULLSHIT from Tony Abbott! In Sydney, the Italians lived around Leichhardt. The Greeks in Marrickville. People from the then Yugoslavia lived from Kogarah down to Wollongong. The Hong Kong Chinese lived around Chatswood and Ryde. (Still do). The Kiwis lived in Bondi, which eventually like most of the eastern suburbs, become home to Jews. St Ives is home many South African Jewish families. Then in the 70’s the Vietnamese lived around Cabramatta. He’s FULL OF SHIT!

@MrPitbull07 @JaneCaro I convinced my DiL to increase the amount of formula she was feeding her baby, even though the label on the can said to give him that amount from x months only. He stopped crying and put on weight 🤷🏼‍♀️

My mother had me in 1962. Her pediatrician told her to feed me every four hours, no exceptions. “Babies need to learn discipline from day one,” he said. “If you feed on demand, you’ll spoil them.” I was a small baby, struggling to gain weight. I cried constantly between feedings. My mother told me years later that it was torture. She’d sit outside my nursery door, crying herself, listening to me scream, watching the clock. Fifteen more minutes. Ten more minutes. Her own mother—my grandmother—begged her to just feed me. “The baby is hungry. Listen to your instincts.” But my mother trusted the doctor more than herself. “He went to medical school. He must know better than I do.” By my two-month checkup, I’d barely gained any weight. The doctor said I was “failing to thrive” and put me on a supplement formula. My mother said, “Should I feed her more often?” He said, “Absolutely not. Stick to the schedule. She’ll adjust.” It wasn’t until my grandmother secretly started feeding me when my mother was out of the house that I started gaining weight properly. My mother carries guilt about this sixty years later. “I ignored every instinct I had because a man in a white coat told me to.” ~Amelia Carter Via FB

@arbsmichael When we retired we moved from Canberra to the coast. We actually upsized for the explicit reason that we wanted space for our kids and their families to visit and stay with us. Eventually we’ll downsize but not until the grandkids are too old to want to stay with us oldies

In Australia, we don’t just have an inflated housing demand problem, we have a serious lack of supply. But increasing supply doesn’t always mean building more homes. There is another way. Many older Australians live in houses far too big for their needs. Some live in four or five-bedroom homes, yet they only use one. The excess space could shelter families, young couples, and first-home buyers, but it sits empty. The barrier? Downsizing is expensive. Stamp duty and fees add almost 6% to the cost of a home purchase. That’s a lot of money standing between an empty nest and a home multiple people could live in. Imagine if that barrier vanished. If the state waived stamp duty for downsizers, many may choose to sell and move to smaller homes. The oversized houses would flood the market. Supply rises, taxes fall, and everyone (except the Treasurer) wins. The solution isn’t just to build more. Maybe we should unlock what we already have.
