A Houston, Texas commissioner requested $8,120 for a 3-day conference. $3,500 for a $249/night hotel. $1,700 for $1,070 registration. $1,500 for a $200 flight. Now multiply that across mid-level government nationwide. They’re siphoning billions — straight from taxpayers.

@HOUrbanist Nobody wants to load onto a train on the side of a freeway Also counterpoint - the Katy freeway expansion took away 75’ of garbage retail and unsightly grandfathered billboards from the 70s I-45 expansion will do the same

@TristenPalori I have to put premium in my tank. That’s an extra $0.60 of pain per gallon. Good news is I keep a tight 3 mile radius on my daily life, so I’m only pumping 30 gallons a month. Even still, at $1.5 more per gallon, I’m paying $540 a year in Iran War tax

@sweatystartup Most Americans outside of that region have heard of just BU, and most would assume American University is a made up name of a school It’s comical to dump that much money into liberal arts schools that aren’t Amherst or Williams, which at least get you a fast track to Wall Street

The entire Patriot league is a complete waste of money. I cannot believe parents will send their kids to these schools and send them into massive debt for these degrees. Embarrassing.

This area’s demographic shift of the last 25 years leads me to believe there’s 0% chance they are doing sales to justify this overhead I hope for all fellow brokers to make their fees and sell their listings, but this one deserves to be rejected by the market

I’m a simple man. Please explain to me how a grocery store makes a profit with $50 psf + NNN rent. It’s (guesstimating) $5,400,000 a year in rent Doesn’t include labor at $15+ an hour + healthcare + PTO I’ve never seen a grocery box in Texas paying more than $20 per foot ever

@MurrayHillGuy1 Charleston you’re a spinster if you’re 30 and not married. Boston is unappealing looking locals and miserable weather, so I’m not sure why it’s a good thing to be single there Houston and Atlanta are way overlooked, as is Tampa.

Houston Housing Gap Widens Monthly mortgage payments in Houston are now ~55% higher than luxury apartment rents. The typical mortgage payment reached ~$2,620/month (end of 2025), up nearly $1,000 since 2019. Comparable high-end apartment rents average ~$1,685/month, rising only ~9% over the same period.

There is a myth that exists about Austin being affordable Mainly this has been created by the coastal folks that move here over other major Texas metros…if you come from Santa Clara county or Boston, sure it seems cheap But for us local southland folks, it’s standout pricey
Austin Statesman@statesman

A new study finds Austin has one of the nation’s widest gaps between renting and buying, with mortgage payments 117% higher than rent. statesman.com/business/real-…

Where are you @METROHouston? We don’t have decent streets, but we have covered bus stops all over town. How can anyone feel safe to take the bus when homeless live in the benches at the pick up locations? This city sucks under Democrat leadership. I’m disgusted.

@LeslieReneeCum1 @LalaCat1101 @paigered3 @METROHouston Sounds great. Still has zero to do with the topic. And for what it’s worth, I’m in Twood and it’s absolutely littered with 70+ residents. There are 4 monster houses under construction at current, 3 are being built by olds. Clearly there are plenty of people who prefer the city

@bo_darley @LalaCat1101 @paigered3 @METROHouston Opinions vary - the city sucks…… We have a condo there for when we visit our boys and have MD appointments. There’s very high security and you can walk to the Galleria. Everybody has choices.
