For those fixes, search for your local “silver center.” (シルバー人材センター) The silver center is where grandmas send their retired, looming, bored artisan husbands to sign up when they have nothing to do. Brilliant elderly gentlemen and ladies who know how to replace shoji paper are waiting there with abundance of knowledge and experience. The price of the work is negligible, but the time, skill and peace of mind you receive is priceless. I just had my shoji paper replaced yesterday. It feels akin to getting a cracked screen replaced on an iPhone! Refreshing!
