@realjohncarvill I'm only about half through. It's ... interesting, I suppose. I'm not sure it's the kind of thing I'll return to as a book and read again. But there are good quotes and passages. I'm also doing the audiobook and very disappointed in the recording of Dylan's voice. It's terrible.

fun franchise idea. every band/scene can have their own all tomorrow's parties-style fests. bill monroe's bean blossom music park in indiana was set up a bit like this in the '50s/'60s, with output jacks for patrons to make tapes.

@bob_notes @carynrose The same Patti Smith who had been involved with, living with, Sam Shepard who was hired by Dylan to chronicle the rolling thunder tour.

Here's a weird, unsigned behind-the-scenes look at Rolling Thunder, taken from the April '76 issue of "Modern Screen." I don't think I've seen this before, but the details are right (Dylan using alias Phil Bender, a bus named Phydeaux, etc). Maybe a compilation of other sources?

@bob_notes I heard this from someone who claims he saw Bob at the time when this song was written and they were both staying at a house in the West Village. The man said the song/poem was written by a high schoold student and Bob stole it. He sounded jealous.

@harryhew @bourgwick Scott was also an enthusiastic supporter of NY fanzine "Broken Arrow." The zinesters helped Scott with dates and details for his book. Scott repaid with family stories. Neil used them both to track down tapes for his archive. All of "Broken Arrow" online: sugarmtn.org/ba/

@bourgwick Yeah, I mentioned it somewhere in this thread. Terrific book. After the Spotify news I posted what his father wrote about Neil's bout with polio; brilliantly written, and helps explain why Neil (and Joni) took the positions they did.

need a term for the uncanny creepiness that occurs after songwriters sell the rights to their songs & the songs start turning up in situations that make my brain hurt. goes beyond just licensing & evokes some deeper weirdness. like AI, minus the A & maybe the I.
