"Solutions make sense when communities come together to create them!🫶🏾" - @bob_soloe
By truly understanding their communities, peer educators can shift conversations away from stigma, discrimination, and neglect of young people, and instead foster trust, inclusion, and opportunities for all.

Sulaiman Muganza Byuma (@bob_soloe), our Senior Programs Officer, took fellow peer educators through the nitty-gritties of understanding their communities, emphasising the importance of immersing yourself in each unique setting.
By exploring the different interests, structures, and beliefs within communities, peer educators learn how to engage better, connect meaningfully, and become more effective change agents.

This week, I’m proud to host a Film Screening & Technical Review at @reachahand, bringing together the @MinofHealthUG (Health Promotion Department), @RHUganda, filmmakers, and civil society partners under the #MenPlusProject.
The films developed under this project use storytelling to spark honest conversations about men’s involvement in family planning, from condom use and vasectomy to actively supporting partners in accessing family planning services.
This screening goes beyond simply watching films. It’s about ensuring the stories we tell are accurate, responsible, and aligned with national health guidelines, while remaining relatable and relevant to the communities they are meant to serve.
With many men still believing that family planning causes infertility, goes against culture, or is “women’s business,” there is critical work to be done in shifting mindsets.
When done right, film has the power to inspire dialogue and contribute to healthier families and communities.
What else do you think can spark more conversations around men’s involvement in family planning?🤔

The New Year is off to a productive start! In Jinja, the Coalition Against Illicit Alcohol – Uganda Charter has officially kick-started our nationwide awareness movement.
With the incredible support of Jinja’s boda-boda riders, the coalition is engaging communities in vital conversations about responsible consumption. Our focus is simple but life-saving: know what is in your drink. Through street marches and our Kwiso Mu Cinema activities, we are equipping residents with the knowledge to pause, think, and choose safety.
Because these conversations belong in every household, @reachahand and our partners are blending high-energy awareness with direct peer-to-peer dialogues. By visualizing the real-world impact of illicit alcohol, we are moving beyond the "vibes" to ensure long-term community health.

Last week, the Coalition Against Illicit Alcohol took to the streets of Mbale City. At the heart of the movement? The boda-boda riders who keep this city moving.
The Elgon region is defined by resilience and unity, but its porous borders often hide a dangerous reality. We see the barrels and jerrycans moving on bikes every day, but do we know what’s actually inside them?
With 65% of alcohol in Uganda classified as illicit, what you’re drinking might not be what you think it is. We aren't just marching; we are sparking conversations that travel from the streets into the home.
We want every family to ask the hard question: Is it worth the risk? Let’s build a network of accountability. Watch out for your peers. Protect your circle.

Together with the boda-bodas, we're holding conversations that spark more thought and caution regarding what they drink.
These conversations are sparking critical thinking and further engagements which will have positive ripple effects between boda-bodas, as well as passengers from different parts of Jinja.
PROTECT YOURSELF. PROTECT YOUR CIRCLE.

This festive season, 50 Boda Boda riders are on the Arua roads, sparking conversations about illicit alcohol.
With 65% of alcohol consumed in Uganda being unregulated, our riders in reflective jackets are ambassadors, reminding us that not all alcohol is safe.
PROTECT YOURSELF. PROTECT YOUR CIRCLE.

We're raising informed, responsible and reliable influencers with the Young Content Developers Training under the Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) Programme.
Sulaiman Muganza, our Senior Programmes Officer (a.k.a our Senior Peer Educator) shares with the young people how to draft content that protects survivors, breaks myths, stigma and false narratives, while all the same adheres to health communication guidelines based on research, medically tried, tested and accurate information.

Our #iKnowKati2025 campaign hit the ground with serious momentum driven by one undeniable truth: 4 out of every 5 new HIV infections among young people are adolescent girls and young women. This is the crisis @reachahand is confronting and the reason our work must stay urgent and loud.
Yesterday in Kosovo, Lungujja, we turned that urgency into action. The procession, the community mobilization, and the engagement on the ground showed exactly what it takes to end this epidemic: communities rising together with purpose and accountability.
The campaign translated that data into tangible impact. From the powerful procession to the service delivery at our Medical Camp, we ensured that life-saving knowledge and tools—including PrEP/PEP awareness, testing, and family planning—were accessible to all.
This sustained effort is critical because stigma and misinformation are still some of the biggest barriers to care. I want to appreciate our partners— @DKTchangeslives , @Hewlett_Found, @FIDA_Uganda the entire @SautiPlus team for powering this work. And to every young person who showed up and participated.
Your courage and commitment prove that the fight is far from over, but the goal is achievable. The call remains: Know your status. Know your future.

Yesterday, we had a very productive day for child health in the Lwengo district!
The #EAFImmunizationProgram team and partners held a crucial orientation for over 44 district leaders on boosting immunization uptake.
We had powerful discussions on reaching zero-dose children and addressing the deep-rooted cultural beliefs limiting our efforts.
With the Resident District Commissioner, Chief Administrative Officer and other health officials in the district pledging their full support, we're confident we can make a significant impact on children's health in the region.

Across the world, 263 million children and youth are out of school — and for those who do attend, millions are still not learning the skills they need for life and work. In Uganda, many young people leave school unprepared for the realities ahead, facing a job market that demands more than academic knowledge.
This isn’t just an education gap, it’s an opportunity gap. Without the right tools, our young people risk being left behind in a world that’s moving fast.
