Today’s final Non-themed “Honorable” mention is from Trainer Boldii208 (@Boldii208) in Mexico 🇲🇽! This postcard showcases a nocturnal avian mural in Tecate, Baja California. It was created by the renowned Mexican artist Álvaro Blancarte (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Álvaro_Bl…). Álvaro Blancarte (1934–2021) was a highly influential painter, sculptor, and muralist based in Baja California. The postcard titles this piece, "Guardianes de la noche" (Guardians of the Night). It features a circular composition with various stylized owls surrounding a central moon and a large celestial eye, creating a mystical, protective atmosphere. There is also a large snake at the bottom of the artwork. The piece is representative of Blancarte's focus on mythology and nocturnal themes, often incorporating regional identity, abstract textures, and always a large snake (from indigenous mythologies). Today’s first “Honorable” mention is from Trainer Boldii208 (@Boldii208) in Mexico 🇲🇽! This postcard showcases a mural located in Ensenada, Baja California. The artwork features a woman in traditional East Asian operatic headwear with large red baubles, but styled with modern, oversized sunglasses, a contemporary aesthetic, and a coffee cup. The general art style is consistent with contemporary tattoo flash and digital illustration designs that incorporate East Asian cultural elements with modern fashion sensibilities. It took me a while to find this one! There is an exact match on the wall of a restaurant in Plaza Sendero Tijuana called Korean Kitchen (instagram.com/koreankitchenm…). The mural is featured in a Tik Tok video (Korean Kitchen Plaza Sendero | TikTok). This particular female opera character in the mural is actually a very common character used in almost identical Asian restaurant murals all over the world. I painstakingly matched the logo on the shirt she is wearing with the restaurant. However, I can’t confirm if there is another location in Ensenada…but damn there are a ton of Korean eateries there! YUM! ⭐️ for a nice sticker match.
