If you wanna do it yourself, this is how: Buy (~15 min) 1. Cheap VPS from Hetzner or DigitalOcean (~€5-10/mo), Ubuntu 24.04, tick automatic backups at checkout 2. Add your domain to Cloudflare (free plan), switch nameservers at your registrar 3. Install Termius (SSH app) + Tailscale (private network) on laptop and phone, free tiers Lock it down (~20 min) 4. Generate an SSH key in Termius, add it to the VPS at creation. Keys only, never passwords 5. SSH in once via public IP, run updates, install Tailscale on the server, log it in 6. Disable Tailscale key expiry for the server (admin console, one click) 7. Verify you can SSH via the server's Tailscale 100.x address BEFORE the next step 8. Provider firewall: delete all inbound rules, allow only port 443 from Cloudflare's published IP ranges. No public SSH at all. You enter through the tunnel 9. Test from outside: public IP times out on everything, Tailscale IP connects. Server is now invisible 10. One SSH key per device. Phone gets its own key added to authorized_keys Install the brain (~5 min) 11. apt install tmux then install Claude Code (official native installer, one curl command) 12. Run Claude Code inside a tmux session so it survives disconnects and keeps working while your laptop is closed Hand over everything else 13. Write ONE long handover prompt telling Claude Code: the server facts, the security model (so it doesn't "fix" it), folder conventions (/srv/http/domain per project, one tmux session each), your preferences, and standing rules (confirm before destructive actions, new services bind to localhost/Tailscale only) 14. Make it write all of that into CLAUDE.md first, so every future session already knows everything 15. Backups before features: nightly job pushing your data to GitHub, tested, before a single page exists 16. Then let it install the web server (Caddy + Cloudflare DNS plugin plays nicest with the locked firewall), set up SQLite, deploy the first page From then on you never administer the server again. You open Termius from anywhere, on any device, and just say what you want. BOSH

@notKarlJung Ten years at Novell! In the .com boom end game was a product manager on Novell BorderManager and Novell Portal Services. Company portals were a ridiculous business model, but good business for a while! We were assured NT was a toy OS and no threat to Novell's business. 😀

I am old and was around for Sun's demise. Aravind's reasoning is 100% true. Sun sold web servers that cost a million dollars each, with expensive services wrapped around them. They could do incredible things small Linux servers could not. For example, you could hot swap cards out of a Sun server WHILE it was running. But a fully loaded Linux web server cost maybe $10,000, so you could buy ten and still save 90%. People rushed for the cheap Linux boxes. Sun tried to adapt, but the whole org was built around million-dollar servers. They just couldn't change. This all happened very quickly, about two years if I recall correctly. Lots of parallels to expensive cloud AI and local AI. If Kimi K3 ships open weights as promised, you could run it on a couple of future Mac M5 or M6 or M7 systems (whatever ends up shipping) for maybe $50,000. And local AI is the worst it will ever be today. Think where it is in two years. I don't think Fable 5 at $50/MTok output is sustainable.

tech is the only professional field where a 19-year-old in kumasi can teach herself to code, build a product, find a client in berlin, and earn in dollars. no certificate from anyone. that self-determination is not a gap in the system. it is the system. it is why ghana has a tech ecosystem at all. when government certification becomes a prerequisite to work, two things happen: brain drain accelerates. meta just cut 8,000 jobs globally and moved 7,000 more into AI workflows. african developers are being positioned to absorb global opportunity right now. a licensing barrier at home does not raise standards. it raises the cost of staying. self-employment dies at the root. the freelancer, the solo founder, the developer building on weekends are not collateral damage. they are the pipeline. requiring certification before anyone can hire them attacks the entry point of the entire ecosystem. @NITAGhana what problem is this actually solving?

All she had to do was request a brochure of the trains she wants to buy. Of course she had seen or heard about these trains before travellibg to China. The company will send the brochure and all technical details needed. She can then hand over the brochure and the technical data sheet to the technical guys in her ministry to study and advise. They can request for a zoom/teams meeting to ask all the questions they want. The supplying company will be more than willing to accept the meeting and assist with answers to their questions. The ministry can apply to any of these companies: SGS, BV, COTECNA, INTERTEK etc to run a certificate of conformity test on the trains to see if they conform to our standards etc. It does not cost more than 500 dollars to get this test done by these companies i have mentioned. When they are done, they will submit their report to the ministry. If the ministry is convinced, they will then request for quotations and have payment terms settled with the train manufacturing company. The ministry does not have to deploy 7 grownups to China to watch a PowerPoint presentation to see the trains fiilifiili. I work in an international company listed on the London Stock Exchange, and a constituent of FTSE 100 index - if only you know what it means. From my experience working with this company, i can confidently tell you that my boss will not approve such sightseeing trips for 7 grownups to visit a company selling equipment.
