The Indian psyche has yet to evolve beyond the Middle Ages. In those times lords and nobles would have their own retinue - it was a symbol of your social status. While the western world has mostly moved on we are still stuck in that mentality. I bet the celebrities enjoy every bit of the spectacle of gun wielding uniformed men and assorted group of officials surrounding them in name of security.

Some cursory details from our story on the noida factory worker protest really jump out: * wages increased by Rs 300, but workers say landlords raise rent itself by Rs 500 every year * if you have kids then the 'admission season' alone cost you Rs 9,000, mostly borrowed * Listen to what one worker has to say: "is it fair that we work 12-hour shifts in the company, and then spend the rest of our time wandering the streets just to fill our gas cylinders?" So even time outside work is not rest, it's survival labour. While we still haven't figured what we do with our giant unemployment problem, here we have brewing resentment about employment itself no longer being enough to live your life in a city. newslaundry.com/2026/04/13/noi…

Being a competitive market doesn’t mean you will be oblivious to situation on ground. No person can run a family of four at this basic salary. Be it MSME or anything else, goods and services must include the cost of production which is just. Workers’ salary has to match a bare minimum that is required to run a family. Customer must pay for the salary of the worker. Besides, govts can subsidise it rather than financing freebies.

As you look at the horrific pictures of the bombed Iranian school… Pause for a minute and think.. Indian Air Force and the Army were given 2 and 7 terror targets respectively to hit on the night of May 6-7 in Op Sindoor… Each was fully destroyed… On the morning of May 8, the IAF carried out extensive air defence suppression using long-range kamikaze drones… On May 9-10 the IAF targeted 14 PAF bases or radar stations/missile batteries… Destructive evidence of almost all these strikes cane up in satellite pictures… All strikes were carried out by precision munitions from long distances… Not one missed aim or strayed to harm civilians… no school, no village or city, no hospitals. None… This despite not having a fraction of the US military weapons, sensors or surveillance ability… And in a furiously contested air space against near-peer PAF and its Chinese air defences… Let’s give credit where due. To our armed forces in this case…

Sorry Modi ji! A monumental waste of human hours by some of the most brilliant minds who needed to spend time to contribute to India’s progress. Please create an eco system where an IITian wants to R&D into AI, Quantum computing, GPUs, Medical engineering etc and not going for babugiri. Bring in professionals to run the country to uplift India. Let Sundar Pichais emerge within India and for India. Please! India needs them - not babus to man RBI, SEBI and frontiers of technology. Think afresh take India ahead. We are actually 90 years behind respected Modi ji!

When unemployment rises, we discover two kinds of politicians—those who call policymakers to develop new policies, & those who call statisticians to develop new statistics.

I’ve realized that many people don’t actually love reading books. They love the identity of being someone who reads books. The aesthetic of it. The photos. The intellectual vibe. But the quiet discipline of reading slowly and thinking deeply? That part is very unpopular.

He could have easily said that he wants to become an IAS officer for the power, stature, and societal validation. If we wanted to create impact, nothing is better than computer science at this point in human history. Now he will spend the rest of his life being the clerk to his political masters, pushing files, lobbying for flats in Moti bagh, and looking for a spouse from the same service.

VIDEO | Delhi: Aakash Trivedi, who secured the 73rd rank in the UPSC examination, says, “I belong to Jalgaon district in Maharashtra. My father is a lawyer and my mother is a housewife. I completed my graduation in Computer Science Engineering from IIT Kanpur and passed out in 2024. I always felt I wanted a purpose-driven career, something meaningful where I could contribute to society. Since I come from a good background and have received a good education, I felt it was my responsibility to give something back. That is when I decided to prepare for the UPSC examination.” #upsc2025 #upscresults

If only Indian twitterati and commentariat werent such snowflakes they would realise that China's rise was its own doing. It's rise was not an American gift. The Chinese planned well, worked well, their engineers didnt sell soap, coke or maggi or join the IAS or worse IRS. They innovated, they built, they invested, they educated their people. The Chinese miracle is of their own making. Similarly whether India will rise or not is in Indian hands. If India rises it wont be because the Americans or Europeans allowed us to or gifted it to us. And we will never rise as long as our first talking point with other countries is "transfer of tech". This is the height of imagination and profoundity of the Indian bureaucrat and techno-crat. Big powers will never allow anyone to equal them. That is a no brainer. If India has to rise, we will on our own genius or not at all. And we will have to find our own way to rise. We cant copy someone else. We must learn from others (assuming we understand we are not the repository of all wisdom in the world and get off our hobbyhorse of being vishvaguru) but we must find our own way to the top because every country has to find its own path.

That’s a round-up-the-usual-suspects view. Or shoot a scapegoat . Accountability must be on the University. Chancellor should be fired & UGC (if it would dare to) assess its academic and ethical credentials. They’ve brought global shame to India, you’d worry about its students & what are its expensive degrees worth?
bhupendra chaubey@bhupendrachaube

Unbloody believable. Someone need to sack this professor of “communication “. Even at this stage, while ostensibly owning accountability, she is saying “ I may not have come across eloquently, which is rare!!!!” Whoever made her teacher of communication also needs to be sacked. @GalgotiasGU owners should just keep their trap shut, for sometime. Don’t dig a deeper whole for yourself. Let the summit not be bogged down by your stupidity.
