@Blahhhhhh34 Instead of expressing your distaste of harmless cultural practices you should shift your energy towards more serious issues in the country

its sad to see as a muhajir other muhajirs and pakistanis calling harmless cultural practices as unislamic or shirk and encouraging others to stop partaking in them even my family stopped doing such things

no YOU ignore indigenous dance practices. people still practice them, they’re certainly not dying out. as for kathak, it became a blend of perso-islamic and hindu culture in the mughal courts, ab woh bhi imported hai kya? not a fair argument at all
Jappa@talhaahmad127

Kathak, while being a respected cultural form, is not indigenous to Pakistan. We ignore indigenous dance practices yet we somehow have the bandwidth to practice Kathak? Local practices are dying while our only idea of culture is decidedly Hindusthani.

Seema Kermani is Muhajir, and this is part of the culture of the region her family migrated from. People are free to like or dislike it, but calling it “non-Pakistani” because its origins are elsewhere makes little sense. By that logic, many of the foods we consider Pakistani today, which also came from the same region wouldn’t be Pakistani either. Same also applies to the Urdu Language. Live and let live, fellow Pakistanis. We are not a monolithic nation; we are a diverse country made up of different communities, traditions, and subcultures. That diversity is part of what makes Pakistan beautiful.

If someone starts presenting something after 78 years and tells us it represents our culture, then no thanks. The people who practice or enjoy it are a separate matter. I may enjoy La Tomatina, but that doesn’t make it part of my culture.

sex trafficking could end tomorrow if men stopped purchasing women’s bodies but you guys would rather be snarky online about women who don’t like pornography than worry about women being gang raped to feed their kids

a lot of straight women’s idea of “feminism” goes no further than how they wanna be treated by their male partners because the only future they can conceive of is as some guy’s wife, and they get very upset if you suggest that maybe they didn’t come up with that idea on their own
