@waynesindustry @FemmeNb @Potatocannons She was very clearly not trying to commit suicide. While she was intoxicated, she was still alert enough to refuse care. I probably wouldn't have been comfortable leaving her, but I also don't believe she needed to be put on a psychiatric hold. It's a really weird grey area.

@FemmeNb @Potatocannons @boot_butch no. SH≠incompetence. if a pt has capacity and doesn’t meet involuntary criteria, you (likely) cant hold them.
pts can refuse if they have decision making capacity. most /protocols/ require evidence of ongoing risk. any refusal depends on capacity & risk, not just what they did.

Being a butch EMT means getting grabbed at and called a 'pretty little boy' by a 40 something year old woman that slit her wrist who refuses any care so you have to hang out on scene cooing her to the ambulance and begging to bandage the very much bleeding wound.

I was much more fem towards the beginning of my transition. I thought that was the way I needed to be to be a woman. Discovering butch masculinity was like another egg cracking and the beginning of a whole new transition for me. I was never masculine like the men around me.

butch trans women don’t ‘keep’ their masculinity. being a butch trans woman is a unique experience of navigating and rediscovering masculinity in a beautiful way. it’s very clear to us when people don’t understand this fact especially in visual depictions of us
