My fiancee gave birth in a Swedish hospital 16 days ago. We had 2 doctors, 2 obgyns and 2 nurses in the room at the end and stayed for 3 days in total getting round the clock care from incredible people. It cost us $40 in total for her, the bill just arrived.

@Memes_155 @DarkOddCon Dead bodies smell bad and induce disgust, they don't look weird to start. I've never heard of anyone getting the "uncanny" feeling from a corpse beginning to decompose. So no, it doesn't hold water.

@DarkOddCon Dead. Bodies. It gave us an aversion to staying around dead bodies so we didn't get sick from the rot. It is also why putrescine and cadaverine cause such visceral disgust.

@Fluuity @DarkOddCon In that case, we would get uncanny valley from meeting new races. We just think they're ugly before we get used to each other, there's nothing uncanny about it. "Uncanny" is when something looks off, unnatural, like a smiling mannequin.

@DarkOddCon It is belived at some point there were various other species of humans that were very territorial and often killed/ate each other. They likely looked very simalar to each other but the human brain evolved to pick out subtal differences in key features.

@DarkOddCon Not everything is because of an evolutionary reason. Sometimes things just get wired sideways, or exists as a byproduct. It's good in general to stay away from "humans" that appear strange, but I don't buy the "corpses" or "other species" theory.
