Chancellor tipped me off before budget, said this was due in large to MSE/my shows campaigning all based on all those of your who messaged me to say it was the key thing to put to him So 1) From this April threshold which hasn't moved since 2013 rises from a single parent earning £50,000 to £60,000 and you lose child benefit totally at £80,000 (not £60,000) 2) Consultation on moving it to family income not individual income and hopefully that'll be in place from April 2026 (this is to stop unfairness for single income/single parent) families. #Budget2024 #BudgetXplanations

@MartinSLewis If I earned 50k I wouldn't care if I qualified for a benefit hand out or not.

@MartinSLewis This still isn't good enough because the fundamental issue remains that it is not based on household income or both parents income. All that's happened is a half-hearted adjustment for inflation over the last 10 years. The Tories are hostile to families and children.

@LBC Tom, people on "middle incomes" of £30-60k salaries are not middle earners. If people in receipt of in-benefits have an equivalent income then these middle earners are actually low income. Traditional middle incomes are being wiped out. £80k+ is middle income now.

@LBC Tom. Children's teeth. This is another symptom of Tory cuts to children and family services PLUS an economy that forces both parents into work to pay bills leaves them both exhausted and short on time.

@LBC Tom, the best thing that any young person can do is to take their skills and their families to another country. 14 years of this government has made us a low pay, high tax and poor public service. Very poor prospects for a family to have a good standard of living.
