SPC has circled a large portion of SW/S'side Va into eastern Ky & southern WVa for increasing severe potential this afternoon. Near Roanoke/NRV, much depends on destabilization with afternoon sun after AM rain/lingering debris clouds. Atmospheric shear unusually strong for July.

@boucher1113 Seems to be what often happens here, a storm cluster from the Ohio Valley arriving early, washing out instability with rain, debris clouds, and outflow cool breezes. Some chance of afternoon recovery, but bigger severe threat will be south and east of where ever this dies out

Big blob of rain with some lightning and thunder sliding into westwrn Virginia. This is a decaying storm cluster, but may deposit some decent rain in places, even some that didn’t get much last week. Also likely dampens instability, reducing later severe storm potential.

This may happen in two parts, pop-up storms during the afternoon and clusters or a line sinking southeast by early to mid evening. After some more rain Wednesday, Thursday and Friday bring dry and relatively cool weather with 70s to near 80 highs for SW/S'side Va.

A cold front will arrive later today to bring another potential for severe storms across the entire region. While the greatest threat is damaging wind gusts, large hail and an isolated tornado are possible. Locally heavy downpours could result in flash flooding as well.

Less smoke, more storms. A frontal boundary lifting NE will get most of the smoke out of our eyes in SW/S'side Va on Saturday, but moist, unstable air with some wind shear aloft may allow strong to severe storms to form, Downpours & gusts for some, sprinkles or dust for others.
