How I published zero first-author papers during 2023: - All the data were already collected - 5 papers could have come from all that data - I read mostly manuscripts I am reviewing and student assignments - I write mostly emails

I recently cycled around Suffolk, my home county, keeping a wildlife list along the way - 250 miles, 117 bird sp., 18 butterfly sp., 14 mammal sp., and a few dodgy tan lines later, some thoughts and highlights are in the thread below.

How I published no papers in my first 3 years of PhD: - My mother got diagnosed with Parkinson’s and I became a primary caregiver; - My husband got unemployed and I had to work extra; Let’s stop considering quantity as the ultimate goal and start treating people as humans.

Avoid “very” in your writing. For example, instead of “very bad” say that your writing is going terribly.
