Boomers had it rough too. High interest rates in the 80s. Recessions. Hard times. I hear you. But you also had: Pensions that actually paid out. College tuition you could cover with a summer job. Houses that cost 3x your salary not 15x. Healthcare that didn’t bankrupt you. One income that could support a family. A job market that rewarded loyalty with stability. We’re not saying you didn’t struggle. We’re saying you struggled and still landed somewhere. We’re struggling and the landing keeps getting further away. That’s the difference. And no amount of avocado toast jokes changes the math.

"Buying a house was really expensive back then. You had to save up two whole months of salary to buy a house, so it was really tough compared to this new soft generation that gets everything handed to them"

The boomer mindset is incredible. Every generation until the boomers has wanted to ensure their children and grandchildren have better lives than themselves. They made terrible sacrifices in the hopes the next generation would not have to. Boomers want their grandkids to re-experience the Great Depression. Hopefully those slot machines are worth it.

Dear Gen Z: My mother ate LARD sandwiches when she was a girl. She lived in a dirt floor shack with no electricity or indoor plumbing. She wore dresses made from flour sacks. Fuck you and your whining about the cost of a mocha latte.

So basically the generation who grew up in the most advantageous economy in world history that found levels of upward mobility unheard of in the rest of world history demand the rest of us to live like their parents (NOT THEM) did during the Great Depression. Boomer’s take basically amounts to: every other generation, both before and after them, should live like plebeians. Only they get the American Dream. The day of the pillow cannot come fast enough. We literally just are not allowed to fix this country until boomers die off.

You will pay into Social Security for 40 years. $9,000 a year. $360,000 total. Out of your paycheck. Not optional. Your return? Maybe $2,000 a month at retirement. That won’t cover rent in most American cities. Now imagine that same $360,000 invested in an index fund for 40 years. At a 7% average return? $1.8 million. Same money. Same 40 years. Completely different future. But you don’t get that choice. You fund a broken system whether you trust it or not. And then they wonder why younger generations have checked out.

Boomers are like "My mother lived a horrible life so that I could have a better one. Anyway, because my parents had a tough life, you should also have a bad life. Things shouldn't get better, they should get worse. But not for me, just you, because you're young. Fuck you."

A friend of mine skipped her mammogram for two years. Not because she forgot. Not because she wasn't scared. Because the last one cost her $600 out of pocket. After insurance. For a screening. She found a lump this year. Stage 3. The mammogram would have cost $600. The chemo will cost $400,000. Insurance will fight every line item. She will spend the sickest year of her life on the phone with a billing department. This country doesn't prevent illness. It finances it.

Tell me if I got this right. People can work 40 years and still not afford retirement. But politicians can work for 4 years and retire for life.

My kid's school asked me to donate supplies. Paper. Pencils. Hand sanitizer. Tissues. I pay property taxes. My state has a $4 billion surplus. The federal education budget is $238 billion. And the teacher is buying pencils out of her own paycheck. And I'm sending in Ziploc bags. We fund stadiums for billionaires with public money. We fund schools with bake sales. And then blame teachers when test scores drop.

The max one can pay into social security per year is $10,453.20. If you did that every year from age 18 until retirement, the max you’ll get from SS is $4,873 /month. If you put it into an S&P index fund instead, you would receive $32,583 per month. Social Security is a scam.

Kevin O’Leary is on a legendary run of being universally hated: “I can’t stand it when I see people making $70,000 a year spending $28 on lunch.” Well, we can’t stand it when scum like Kevin O’Leary come into our communities and build massive data centers the people don’t want.
