Made my first trip to Morehead State University in Kentucky to watch one of the fiercest rivalries in these mountains as @boydbasketball battled Ashland for the 16th Region Championship. The stakes were massive. Ashland was chasing a record 8th regional title while Boyd County was fighting to get back to Rupp Arena for the first time since 2018. On center stage were two stars ready for the moment: the Bucket Mystro Jacob Spurlock(@JSpur2026) and Ashland sniper Elijah Neel (@ElijahNeel10). The gym was buzzing, the crowd electric, and the atmosphere matched the magnitude of a win-or-go-home showdown. From the opening tip, it was clear this would be another backyard brawl. Nothing came easy as both teams brought fierce defense with their offensive firepower. Boyd County landed the first punches, knocking down big shots to take a 15- 13 lead after the first quarter. The physical battle only intensified in the second as Boyd began to find its rhythm behind Spurlock and pushed the lead to 30- 22 by halftime. Ashland came storming out in the third, turning defense into offense and grinding out tough baskets through contact to cut the lead to 38-34 heading into the final quarter. With everything on the line, the final eight minutes felt like a heavyweight fight. Knowing this was his last shot to reach Rupp, Spurlock attacked the moment like a man possessed. He battled for every rebound, delivered big baskets, and refused to let Boyd County’s season end. Malichi Payne(@MalachiPayne15) added 12 points while Caleb Rimmer stepped up as the X factor with 10 points and timely rebounds that helped Boyd keep control late. Ashland refused to go quietly as Neel poured in 19 points and Caleb Clarke added 14, making the final minutes edge-of-your-seat dramatic. But Boyd County stayed composed and sealed the hard-fought 59-49 win from the line. Spurlock finished with 27 points and a ton of rebounds, delivering when Boyd County needed him most.
